Man killed in hit-and-run in Ibaraki

A 44-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Yachiyo, Ibaraki Prefecture on Sunday morning.

Police said emergency services received a call just after 2 a.m., reporting that a man was lying on the street. The victim, identified as Akiharu Tanaka, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead, TV Asahi reported.

Police said a nearby resident reported hearing a loud thump at the time of the incident.

Tanaka had been out drinking on Saturday night and was walking home, police said, adding they are treating the incident as a hit-and-run case.

If they find out it was an ojichan who did it, he will be charged with accidental infliction of injury, watch.

Is it my imagination or have there been in the recent years more hit and runs ?? What happened to people being accountable in this country ?? Hope there are surveillance cameras around that area, at least they can narrow it down and inspect cars for damage or recent repairs.

RIP Tanaka San

Tanaka San was walking home at 2:00 am drunk. How drunk?

The laws on drink-driving are so harsh now, tightened every time there is an outcry for stricter laws, that people will flee the scene of an accident and turn themselves in at a later date once their blood alcohol has gone down. Better a sober hit-and-run where you say you didn't notice, than a DUI where you admit killing someone while drunk, is the thinking. This is a calculated move which I have read about and which seems to be more frequent now, as you suggest, Crazedinjapan.

yup...everybody will try to flee and let their alcohol level back to zero then go to the police and confess. Drunk driving involving accidents can be as harsh as 20 years or more. A simple hit and run? suspended sentence.

I think it's both parties fault. The man for going out and getting drunk and not walking safely home and the driver for being a nut job and not stopping to check on the man. I mean would this accident have happened if the man was safely walking and looking at incoming cars (most probably not). Also this person who just hit and run is a tool, because now instead of maybe it being taken as an accident, they will be charge with manslaughter. Anyways RIP old man guess you went out in a happy way , by having enjoying yourself while out drinking with friends :)
