Police in Osaka said Monday they have arrested a 53-year-old man on suspicion of killing his neighbor in an apartment building in Higashinari Ward.
According to police, sometime on Saturday, the suspect is accused of entering the apartment of his nextdoor neighbor, a man in his early 60s, and repeatedly bashing him in the head with a blunt object, TV Asahi reported Monday.
According to police, a Pomeranian dog belonging to the victim, was barking, which led to the discovery of the body on his bed. Moreover, investigators found blood on both the doorknob of the room, and all over the walls.
Police said the suspect has denied all charges and said he has never met the victim.

But killing the man didn't stop the dog from barking!

It's possible not to know your neighbors. I have two that I have never met. We work different hours and enter and leave at different hours. I know I have neighbors because I can hear their door open and close and people moving about.

So the whole building is suspect. Maybe it's a collective work.
Why him among all others ?

I agree with rickyvee. After some quality J-cop interrogation I'm sure it will come out that the guy got tired of listening to his neighbor's dog barking and instead of doing something civil about it, let it bottle up until he snapped.

I'm sure the Osaka prosecutors will change his mind and have a confession.

Must be some evidence they're not telling us about. Else why just arrest the next-door neighbor in a apartment building with so many other possible suspects.

This actually quite likely. I'm always asking people if they know their neighbors and most people don't. It's a nation of 130 million strangers! Whether or not the neighbor is responsible for the murder I am not gonna speculate. It could have been any one of the local strangers!

I believe it is possible to not meet the neighbor, I leave my house and come home at various times but have only seen my next door neighbor's face once in two years. And we live in a relatively friendly small beach town.
No mention of any evidence linking them. I hope the police have more than proximity to hold this guy.

perhaps the man hated the barking of the pomeranian dog. those dogs can be quite urusai!

I was thinking the same but perhaps he just moved in? We don't know all details. Plus you are forgetting there are many hikikomori.

"nextdoor neighbor" - never met him?
I believe I have at least seen everyone in my building of about 15 apartments.
