Police in Yokohama have arrested an unemployed 46-year-old man on suspicion of breaking into a residence in Yokohama and stealing cash and valuables.
The suspect, Kazuo Okubo, is also being questioned about his involvement in 70 similar cases in Yokohama, Fuji TV reported.
Police said Okubo is suspected of breaking into a residence in Yokohama's Isogo Ward at around midnight on Nov 6 or early on Nov 7, and stealing cash and gift cards worth approximately 520,000 yen. According to police, Okubo took a drawer outside and threw everything away except for money and valuables.
Okubo has admitted to burgling houses but told police he wasn't sure if he robbed the house in Isogo Ward.
Police said there have been at least 70 similar break-ins since last March, with about 7 million in cash and valuables stolen.© Japan Today
