A man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting his elderly mother, who subsequently died, police said Monday.
The man, who has been named as 49-year-old Masahiko Jono, is accused of punching his 73-year-old mother Kimiko multiple times at their home in Takahata, Yamagata Prefecture, last Friday night, TBS reported. On Saturday morning, Jono called police to report that his mother had passed away. The coroner ascribed the cause of death to blood loss.
Authorities say that marks found on the body of the deceased suggest that she had been assaulted before. Police say Jono has not yet been charged with manslaughter, but that they are currently investigating whether the assault was directly connected to the woman's death.

He'll get a light sentence...it was an immediate family member.

In 2005 Japan had 1,224 reported murders and out of those 44.2% were committed by a relative of the victim. 40.1% by an acquaintance, 15.4% by a nonacquaintance and 0.3% others.

in japan, you are most likely being killed by any of your own family member than any random stranger

Ah, another day in Japan another family member killed by an immediate relative. - This loon must have given her one hell of a beating if she died from blood loss.

How sickening. Even worse to read that she had been assaulted before.
Without knowing the facts, you would imagine that the neighbors knew something was happening.
Surely there must have been screams and shouting. Also bruises from previous assaults.
Like bullying, this country and its civilians just don't know what to do to help someone in need of help.

Nothing much sadder.

Killing, of course, is bad enough, but killing your own mother? So sad
