Man questioned over murder of 69-year-old father

Police in Neyagawa, Osaka Prefecture, are questioning a 31-year-old man over the murder of his 69-year-old father at their home on Tuesday.

According to police, the man called 110 at around 7:50 a.m., saying that his father, Hideki Watanabe, was lying on the floor, bleeding from wounds, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police rushed to the house and found Watanabe lying on the floor beside his bed. He was confirmed dead at the scene. Police said he had stab wounds to his abdomen, back and other parts of his body.

Watanabe lived with the suspect who is his second oldest son.

The son said he had been out all night and got home at around 5 a.m. He was quoted by police as saying he slept briefly and when he got up at around 7:30 a.m., he found his father on the floor and then called police.

Police said Watanabe had been dead for several hours when they were called to the house.
