Man rams car into police HQ in Shiga

A man drove his car through the glass doors at the entrance of police headquarters in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, on Friday night, then got out of his vehicle and started a fire.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Akihiro Moriguchi, 35, rammed his car into the entrance of the building at about 11 p.m. Friday. NTV reported that he then got out of the car, brandishing a bar in one hand, and poured a gasoline-type liquid on the floor. He set fire to the liquid with a lighter.

Police overpowered Moriguchi and the fire was extinguished quickly. There were no serious injuries reported.

Police said Moriguchi, whose occupation is unknown, has refused to answer any questions but he is believed to have written a blog complaining about surveillance cameras and that he wanted to run in the July 21 election to reform the police department and prosecutors' office but he didn't have enough money.

He was taken to hospital Saturday for a mental examination.

I wonder if he was inspired by the scene in The Terminator I.

You can find those vehicle-blocking barriers all over just about any city, but he was able to drive right up to (and through) the entrance to the police station??

He wanted to run in the election to reform the police force? I guess he has the right level of mental stability for Japanese politics.

Despite that stunt he pulled, he has a point there!
