If you don't have anything nice to say, no need to say it at all.

I think online trolls need to get a life but it’s free speech and, supposedly, this is a free country. It’s a slippery slope once you start prosecuting someone based on their opinions, however terrible and inappropriate they may be.

Nice winds of change on the horrible situation on social media where people felt they had the right to harass and attack others with impunity. Double gain when this also is making very easy for victims to get a nice economic compensation from services when they let their users do this without control. A few lucky people that notice this and get a nice reward and finally companies will make their part in enforcing their own rules.

Looking at how sites refuse to control their users it may not be difficult to think people will make anonymous accounts to attack other accounts they can then use to demand this compensation, services are left wide open to this kind of abuse.

Throw the book at the slanderers!!!

I guess once we go down that road, freedom of speech might be curtailed if we want to say the Japanese PM is a blah blah blah, it will start with one guy, then maybe a reporter, or a YouTuber, but not something I wish to see. Give the guy a warning, and see if he stops, if not then it can be harassment. I guess it’s all about chasing TV ratings, eye balls and money.

Now anyone who calls someone a name online in Japan can be prosecuted. Censorship even by Japan today can be bad enough but where do we draw the line.

Separately, she filed a lawsuit against the program's Japanese broadcaster and two other companies in December, claiming her daughter committed suicide because of the show.

The people who slandered her are one thing, the show is something else, as the producers and everyone knows that it was a set up, and like it or not, she played her part as well.

Again, what happened online is something totally different, and while the producers may have some part in it, Hana Kimura had a part as well, and handing out "percentage of guilt" is really hard here.

It's all fine and good that slander is getting sorted out.

BUT, they have done nothing to address the producers of the show hiding behind NDAs for their role. They may or may not be guilty of something, but I don't think we'll ever know as long as they are allowed to hid from a full and open inquest.

New to this whole internet thing? If people only posted when they had nice things to say, we'd all have to go back to talking to each other face-to-face.
