Japan typically has no problem with identifying suspects in any numbers of criminal cases, yet they have not here.
Oh right, Japanese aren't terrorists! Japanese don't commit crimes against the state. My bad! (sarcasm!)
Vince Black
He should be locked up for good. Japan can't afford to take any chances with even a hint of someone being interested in such barbaric ideologies

What is wrong with him for joining IS, what a stupid man!? they're not welcoming him, they're gonna use him as a toy !
sourpuss
What on earth are you talking about?
Aum? The Japanese Red Army?
All Japanese know about these incidents.
Anyway this case is about crimes against another state in a personal capacity. I didn’t know there was a law related to such a thing, but now I do.

He answered a help wanted ad, and then
Sounds like a very losto soul

I'm so surprised there is a person in Japan who supports IS. Is he a battle lover? Or a kind of anti peace people? Anyway it's good he didn't kill anybody and he wasn't killed by someone.
Realization
Unless any nonsense person none can preparing to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State militant group.
It's a fake group by the name of religion.
Japan must not allow such activity and should be handle strictly without considering their situation.
Must be in hard line.

Let them go then revoke their passports.

Candidates for this year's Darwin Awards, especially that really gullible journalist.
Mister X
Can someone explain to me why the article clearly states that the police withheld the suspects names but in the same article two names of Japanese suspects get mentioned anyway ?
Could it be the names of the other three suspects can't be mentioned because it would be you know too sensible ?
Anyway Muslim extremism is a cancer that needs to be eradicated at its source before it can spread over the community seeing as some people are very influenceable to its propaganda.
I completely agree, just let them go and pass a law that clearly states that anybody who leaves Japan to fight for a terrorist organization will receive a lifelong ban to reenter Japan whether or not they are Japanese citizens.

I don´t understand what the crime here is. So he wanted to leave and join a radical islamic movement. So what? What happened to freedom of movement?
I can see a reason to revoke his passport, although even that looks legally difficult. But detain him? For what???
7-7
Why is his name not published? He's no longer a minor!

mico:
Why stupid? He believes in their ideology. Not more or less stupid than other believers of fanatical ideologies.
Mister X
Except that most other ideologies don't encourage blowing yourself up in order to kill thousands of innocent people all over the globe, use women as sex slaves, post videos online where they cut peoples head off, believe that if you die a martyr forty virgins await you in heaven,...
Sounds pretty stupid and perverted to me.
WilliB
Mister X:
Yes. But people do believe in stupid things. And allowing people to have stupid beliefs is part of freedom of speech. I still do not see where exactly he violated any law.
