Police in Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture, are looking for a man who reportedly tried to get a 9-year-old girl into his car on Friday morning.

According to police, the girl was walking alone from her home to the school pool at around 8:15 a.m., TV Asahi reported. Police said the girl told them that a man standing by a car with the door open, approached her and touched her cheeks with his hands. She cried out and the man then got into his car and drove off.

The girl hurried to the school and notified the principal who called police.

The man is described as being about 165 cms tall, chubby, in his 30s with close-cropped hair. He was driving a black station wagon, according to the girl.

I lived out in Yachimata for a year or so, working for a construction company. A good part of my job was Driving, so I knew ALL the roads between Yachimata & the BEACH, of course. I always thought how desolate it was out there, anyone could simply disappear in the blink of an eye....it's been happening every now & then..something happened not too long ago out there as I recall.

good thing she cried out! too bad she couldn't get his license plate.

Cry out, there's a stranger about!!!!

Her mother must have briefed the little girl and she has done great to cry out. The police should consider installing cameras along routes to the elementary schools if physical patrols cannot be increased.

Good job to the parents who are raising this young lady. And good job to the girl for having the presence of mind to retain all of this information and relay it to the principal.

The little girl done a good job and now it is up to the comunity as well as the police to find this man and he must be found because you can be sure that he had done this before and maybe did get some little girl and someone has seen him and maybe even knows who he is. This a nation wide search.

The dude may be weird, but that's not exactly trying to get her into his car, is it? Maybe he just wanted to touch her cheeks? Oh sure, if she was willing to get into his car, probably he would have happy to have her get in, but he made no attempt to force her into his car.

The girl said he was driving a black station wagon. It should be pretty easy to find the dude, how many black station wagons of any color are on the streets?

This headline should be "Man reportedly touches girl's cheeks" as there is no evidence that he tried to get her into his car, though I don't doubt he would have had her in his car if she had been willing to get in, and then we would have had a much more serious situation. And, cripes, I meant to say how many station wagons of any color are on the streets? I expect the police will have this dude in custody within 24 hours.

He probably dropped his manga book.

Rarely see "chubby" in a formal article.

I'm sick of reading about these creepy older guts trying to kidnap children. Last week was a pro that had a silent room set up for his abductee. What the heck is wrong with these people? Don't give me that crap about it happening all over the world. It has a special sickness to it in Japan. Possibly, the recent ban on child porn will change it, but I doubt if!

Suggest somebody invent this, and some lawyers consider its legal implications:

1] A choker or necklace with a cellphone attached as pendant. Chain breakable when strongly pulled. Cellphone rests on the body in a way it and the body point to the same direction. 2] Functions: a) Camera. b) GPS. c) Transmits pictures, videos, GPS data (and voice mail) to parents’ cellphone. 3] How to use: a) Lightly pull the cellphone (pendant) downward to turn on cellphone. b) Cellphone automatically takes pictures, videos, GPS data etc. and automatically send them off to parents’ and family’s cellphones. c) Pull pendant to turn off. d) With larger batteries cellphone can be left on all the time. e) A small sound indicates the phone is on. f) In isolated areas look back often. Turn on the phone and turn around to face the person approaching. g) Main purpose is to let the person beware that his (and his car’s) data and the location data are spread and recorded.

@Disillusioned, i'm new to Japan from Europe ...your post are very interesting...Your post seem to bring in depth perception as to what is really going on. Also IMO I noticed that good comments get thumbs downs as if children are voting.

I got an email alert from the school yesterday regarding this. My daughter goes to the same school as this kid. Last time it was some creep grabbing some kid from behind, now this. Scary! I walk my 6 year old to school and pick her up as well, eventhough I'm not supposed to (because the school said so)

Good job by the girl to scream, run, and inform the teachers.

In many cases, reaction trying to silence screaming results in victims being smothered or strangled.

He was driving a black station wagon

JT: Other news outlets are describing it as a "kuroi wagonsha" which is not necessarily a station wagon....could be a mini van or SUV.

Please don't drag Manga into this!
