Police in Yokohama said they were called to a home on Sunday by a man reporting that both of his parents had "committed suicide."
According to police, a 26-year-old man called the emergency services at around 5:30 p.m. to report that both of his parents had committed suicide with a firearm. TBS reported that police arrived at the scene to find the bodies of 54-year-old Soichi Sasaki, the president of a generator design company, and his wife Kazuko Sasaki, 58. Police say the deceased were lying on the groundfloor near the kitchen bleeding from gunshot wounds, in what is being treated as a murder-suicide.
Police say the couple's son said he was on the second floor of the house when he heard a gunshot. He then reportedly came downstairs and found his parents bodies lying next to a hunting rifle.
Police said that no suicide note was found at the scene.

A few gaps in this story. Trust the police will....

Very tough to get a gun in Japan, a hunting rifle?? Too many debts?? So many questions, and as usual, not enough information, but RIP??

It sounds suspicious to me... I think there are more to come to light...

In the Japanese articles, he said he heard the sound of a gun shooting. It is not clear if he meant one or more shots. I would guess the meaning is gunshots, not gunshot.

Most likely a murder suicide. The deceased were lying on the ground? You mean the floor.

I wonder - isn't it difficult to kill yourself with a rifle?
sangetsu03
Actually it is not. Many people survive suicide attempts made with handguns, very few survive suicides from hunting rifles, which are many times as powerful.
I worked in law enforcement for several years, and I have seen many suicides.

How can he come to the conclusion that is a murder suicide without conclusive forensic evidence? Yes, I smell either a dead rat or a rotten fish. Investigate the son, his financial condition, interview his friends and acquaintances. Check his bank and credit cards. And see if he was the beneficiary in the parent's will. Why would they want to commit suicide in the kitchen when it is time to enjoy the evening meal. This would be more credible if it happened on the weekend at night, in their own bedroom.

26 year old son of a CEO... we've established a motive, now just to collect the evidence.

Not enough information as usual with these kinds of stories.

No.
No.
There are no will in Japan. By law, children are heirs. So the young man, and maybe siblings. Then nothing says there is something to inherit besides debts. And taking over a small business at 26 is not really a present.
That's weird they did it when the son was at home and they didn't let a note. That would be weird if he had done but had stayed there instead of finding some alibi. A pair of visitors that didn't know someone was upstairs ? .

「" Very tough to get a gun in Japan, a hunting rifle??」 No "
You're kidding, right? There was an article not long ago on JT about the arduous, but not impossible, process of getting a rifle in Japan.
I'd prefer a handgun, though.

Ah, the classic single gunshot two dead scenario, let me guess, the father's hands were tied behind his back when he pulled this one off.

Nice to see how half of the comments assume that the son is not telling the whole story. It is quite bold to suggest that a son would want to kill his parents, without anything suggesting this. Most people tend to love their parents and do not want to kill them.
But hey, we all know the cute and adorable elderly never go mental and commit suicide right? Must have been the son then.
Regarding the one gunshot... as Sangetsu said:

Actually, I wrote that. But, I agree with your sentiments.

No, that's not the US, but that's not North Korea either. People can get hunting rifles, and a number do. .
Money can speed it up. But if he was a hunter, he had his regular gun, or he knew where to borrow one.

Mr. Sasaki has a rifle license.

I wonder, did they shoot themselves in the back?

Its fairly easy to see the gunshot wounds and draw the first conclusion on suicide with a rifle. Their is a small area for entry wound that would be difficult to place a shot there if a murder.
Why suspect the son? He just lost his parents. Certainly an investigation will follow to pursue charges if need be. Otherwise show some sympathy for the young man.

Tragic....son left without parents. RIP!

I guess people are assuming the son did something because of the quotation marks around “committed suicide". This isn't the official Police of Kanagawa blog so I'm sure they have more than what's in this article. It is possible to "commit" a double suicide with one shot with a hunting rifle and sword suicides of that kind are quite popular in Korean movies, so why not..

Is not suicide high in Japan dispite low gun usage whether by any means it is a tragic situation to all left in the land of the living.
