An unemployed man who falsely reported a fire and then stole a ride on the fire engine that was dispatched as a result back in April, was arrested Wednesday. Police said Kunio Higa, 45, from Nishimiya, climbed aboard the vehicle and then jumped off again roughly 800 meters down the road.
The fire station had received a report that an alarm was ringing, but no fire was found. Police later investigated the source of the telephone call and traced it back to Higa. During questioning, Higa confessed to the crime but gave no reason why he did it, police said.

Thank God the keystones dont control the fire department and ambulances. It would take 6 months before you could receive help.

He would be my hero if he did.

I feel bad that this made me smile. He shouldn't have done it, as there could have been a real emergency going on while he was messing around, but... still. It made me laugh, haha.

Looks like the fire fighters got taken for a ride.

Next time, use a pay phone not your cell. And a pay phone that isn't being covered by a Big Brother camera.

He should have used a false phone to report it and saved us all a lot of trouble.
I built a false fire in my fire place last night. It wasn't very warm.

I think that someone should buy this guy a dalmatian. It would keep him off the streets.
