Man robbed of cash and clothes on way home in Tokyo

A 51-year-old man was robbed of his wallet and his clothes early Wednesday morning in Kita Ward, as he was on his way home after drinking, police said.

The man was drinking with a friend at a bar near JR Akabane station on Tuesday night, and started to walk home at about 1 a.m. Wednesday when he was attacked from behind by three youths. He was hit in the back of his head and threatened with a knife, while one of the youths demanded cash.

The man handed over his wallet which contained about 26,000 yen and then another of the youths told him to take off his clothes. The man removed all of his clothes and the youths picked them up and ran away from the scene, leaving him with just his shoes and socks, police said.

The man ran to his apartment about 300 meters away and called police. He gave a description of his attackers, saying they were about 17-18 years old and wearing baseball caps.

Wonder where he kept his keys...

leaving him with just his shoes and socks

Took his cash and clothes but left him with his apartment key? Unless he carries his keys in his socks, something's not quite right about this story.

I saw the headline and thought the Terminator was in town.

"Your Clothes. Give Them To Me."

Well maybe he left the door unlocked? Haha. Or the thugs were nice and gave him his key... Darn kids though. I hope they catch them.

errr, doorbell and wife opens the door?

the days of a sarariman getting wasted and walking home are long gone... sad thing is.... punks and thugs can easily get away with it here. Wish they would try and rob me... I actually would enjoy it.

I was going to say, he's 51 years old so it's a good bet he's married, and perhaps his wife was at home? Not big lateral thinkers, some of you.

His wife probably hired the punks to teach him a lesson for coming home drunk so late.

Gurukun - clever!

Sounds like the opening scene from Terminator with big Arnie!!!!

"his wallet which contained about 26,000 yen"

I wonder how much it contained before he started drinking at the bar.

back in the 80s most dudes would have 100,000 on them at any given moment, so not many needed to rob. But now Japan is a ghetto after 12AM is some parts.

didnt the same thing happen in Tokyo few months back to that SMAP dude?

There's something missing from this report, and it's not just the man's skivvy shorts. This is an extremely atypical crime for Japan, doesn't make much sense. If they only wanted money, what was the point of ordering him to strip? Sounds more like somebody had a personal grudge against him and the money was secondary.

thanks for the laughs boys

Bungalow-- I thought he was just drunk and yelling in the street with no clothes on. I don't remember the whole story exactly haha.

Beelzebub-- You know, now that you say that... that kinda makes some sense. Or they could have just been stupid kids who just wanted something to laugh about as they were counting the money. Who knows. Curious.

If you see some young hoodlum wearing a brown tweed jacket, slip-on loafers with buckles on them and baseball hats - notify the cops!

The Terminator: I need your clothes, boots and your motorcycle. Cigar Biker: You forgot to say please...

he's 51 years old so it's a good bet he's married, and perhaps his wife was at home?

Though this story doesn't mention it, wifey opening the door may be a good theory. Lots of leap of faith, some of you.

It's going to get more and more violent out on the streets as Japan's economy keeps going down I reckon

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So RomeoRamenII, if you don't think it's likely he's married, what's your theory for how he got inside? Heard of Occam's razor?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm thinking he blew the intended-for-family-expenses 26,000yen in an Akabane Philippine Pub, got wasted and stripped down (like the SMAP dude) and then ran home to wifey claiming he was robbed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

saying they were about 17-18 years old and wearing baseball caps.

That description should narrow the suspects down to three in a couple of million. Do you reckon he was rolled or did he have a bad experience in a love hotel?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

what's your theory for how he got inside?

Apparently English is not your native language, Aspara, otherwise you would know my theory is key in the sock based on the information presented in this story. It's you who made the Leap of Faith presumption that this guy's married and wifey let him in when that info is not part of the story.

Perhaps JT will call the police station, ask the question and update this article.

Man robbed of cash and clothes on way home in Tokyo

And to think, he went to all this trouble of making such an elaborate cover story, just so his wife wouldn't find out he was out drinking with his mistress, or hooker, and spent all his money...

I would have paid good money to see this oyaji banging on an apartment door at 1am, completely in buff....

Ha ha ha...

I'm sure when the cops arrived, they probably arrested him first... "Yea, sure a group of youths beat you up, took your wallet and all your clothes..."

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Did they let him keep his change and keys?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tsk tsk, see, men, this is what you get when you walk home by yourself after dark.

At 51 I would also vote for "wife let him in." Quite unusual for a man that age to not be married. Otherwise, I would speculate he lived in some kind of company dormitory and had someone who could let him in.

you'd have to be really desperate to take a j-salaryman's clothes, considering they're, as a group, some of the worst-dressed people on the planet...polyester suits and plastic shoes, white socks

0 ( +0 / -0 )

mindovermatter: I like your version of events.

Sarge: Great minds think alike!

My theory: The three youths had just robbed someone else after their baseball practice and needed a quick disguise!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

mindovermatter: I was thinking pretty much the same thing...or perhaps that he got scammed into paying a prostitute up front who then ran off with everything, including the clothes. Can't exactly tell wifey that; the thug story definitely would save face! lol

And as for your comment...

I would have paid good money to see this oyaji banging on an apartment door at 1am, completely in buff....

I wouldn't! LOL

Typical negative comment by stirfry. Plastic shoes? Nice. I never pay anything under $300 for my shoes, never pay under $1000 for my suits.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He had a spare key in his socks ... easy!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

and his clothes?!?! come on j-punks, give the humble hard working salaryman a little bit of respect!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm with the folks who say a soapland and an contrived story are involved. Either that or a terminator just came through time...."give me your clothes" "What?" "Your clothes, give them to me. Oh, and I'll need some yen too."

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@bicultural I applaud you for your success! I will never pay more than 39.99 for shoes, and my suit? Oh, I don't have one. LOL

0 ( +0 / -0 )

they did not take his shoes? I thought that is all young punks were into. I get a giggle every time I think of this one.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I wonder y he didn't put up a good fight with the punks. If I was gonna go down, I would like some company. It doesn't matter how old u r. If you get jumped, just fight for ur life. U'll be amazed how strong a person can be at any age if they r attacked physically.
