A 20-year-old man robbed a convenience store in Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture, and then asked the store employee to call police to come and get him.

According to police, the suspect, Tomoya Takahashi, entered the Lawson store at the west exit of Tsujido Station at around 9 a.m. Saturday. Sankei Shimbun reported that he threatened the cashier with a knife and demanded money. After receiving 49,000 yen from the cash register, Takahashi stayed in the store and asked the cashier to call the police.

Nobody was injured in the incident, police said, adding that Takahashi has so far declined to give a reason why he wanted to be caught.

If it was an older guy, I'd say he did it for "3 hots and a cot", but a young guy like this?

He obviously need psychological assistance, if you ask me, he might did this because he wanted to be set, sometimes stress of life and society specially in Japan is way to heavy, maybe he wasn't good or happy at what he was doing for living, maybe he was having trouble to find a job, so he thought something like, "You know what, if I was in prison it would be great, free food, a place to live, no work".

"yey!!!free shirts, free meals, free stays for at least 4 years..life outside is tough isn't??" especially when you live in a tiny country close to the size of californian, with a pop density of 336 people per Km2. Not to mention 1 out 3 nutz, and 2 out of 9 bullies

All the hotels were booked?

I can remember sitting at a Family Restaurant a few years back when I heard a couple of unsavory individuals talk about getting themselves locked up for the winter..... saying it was better than living in a box. Why this guy wants to get locked up now.... I'm not sure though.

Free room and bored, this guy has no job, has no future at least he knows he will have a place to sleep every night have 3 meals and do nothing as he had done in the past!! The worst has yet to come, too many young people with no future, too many old people in power with no vision. Sad!

How odd??!! if the pressure of the big city was pilling up on you, you could move out to a smaller country side village.

Ah, the life of a NEET!

I'll bet loneliness and/or despair played a part in his decision to do something foolish. Too bad armed robbery is the way he chose to get attention.

Maybe need to start aiming for agriculture again and small town living. But I agree with a lot of the speculation around here that its for "free" room and board.

Someone is after him, ..he need protection and jail is probably where he feel safe the most. ..I would guess!!
