Police are looking for a man who robbed a Sukiya gyudon store of 270,000 yen in Kawasaki on Wednesday morning.
According to police, the man entered the store in Saiwai Ward at around 2:40 a.m. Sankei Shimbun reported that he threatened the 25-year-old male employee on duty with a knife and demanded all the money from the safe. A 21-year-old female worker was also on duty at the time, but neither employee was injured.
The man is described as being in his 40s, dressed in black and was wearing a black cap.
Police said the same Sukiya store was robbed of 40,000 yen on Dec 18.
Sukiya has been a favorite target of thieves over the past three years.
In 2011, the NPA released a report in which it said Sukiya is targeted by thieves because the restaurants usually only have one worker on duty at night and the cash register is kept near the entrance at most of its stores.
Comments describing Sukiya as an easy target because of its lax security were circulating on the Internet and mobile phone sites in 2011 and 2012.
The NPA has urged operator Zensho to install security cameras and not keep so much cash on the premises, but robberies have continued.

From the sounds of this robbery the robber knew exactly when to rob them and I believe that it was done by an employee, friend of one or even a friend of the owner/operator.

Even if they install cameras for show, that don't actually operate with a recording system but were in view for patrons to see it could reduce the number of robberies. However unless the company is really that stringent with spending they should just get working systems for their stores.

Seems the employees did not use the orange paint balls, which they keep near the cash register for just such purpose.

This one loss equates to ¥270 per branch for Sukiya, and no staff are going to sue for trauma.

When are people going to accept the fact that "Nippon wa anzen na kuni" is not as true as many Japanese people would like to believe. It's time (been time for a while..) that these 24 hour type stores start using policies like those in America. Money goes into a safe that cannot be opened by employee. No change for 5 or 10,000 yen bills.
