Such a dilemma. Makes me wonder how many people would help someone die if they asked for it, while knowing the consequences of such action.

Seeing she must have had time to quit the car before the inhaling, but denied to do so, she was either asleep or did really want it. Then acceptance and pity is all that could be offered.

This is true love indeed, the only vindication for the husband would be an autopsy report which would reveal the exact time and cause of death. So killing her and then putting her body in the van and then lighting the charcoal briquettes would tell the real truth.

You are all talking as if somebody saying "kill me, I want to die...." can possibly be justification for murder (or manslaughter as this may turn out to be). It isn't. Even if he felt he was doing this out of compassion, he has been mega stupid. I should know, I was in a very similar situation two decades ago...

The thing is though, this article does not give any extenuating circumstances or evidence to support the husband's claims. Did she really want to die or did he murder her? Has there been toxicology tests done in her? Was she slipped half a dozen sleeping pills before she was CO2 poisoned in the van? Was the husband the reason she wanted to die?

If the husband had been truly compassionate, the outcome wouldn't have been like this.

So many questions here. If she wanted to, why didn't she just do it herself? Why no note? And was she tied/incapacitated/trapped in the car in any way? If not, it seems like she could just get out of the car if this really was foul play.

A good friend of mine suffered from depression for many years and finally committed suicide. The thing I am saddest about is that she knew what the consequences would be for all of us, so she had to die alone. If the world were less judgemental I could have been there to hold her hand in her darkest hour. I didn't want her to die, I miss her all the time, but I would have been there for her - not helped her - but just been there. Even in doing that I would have been in trouble. I feel very sorry for this man.

Suppose that what he is saying is actually true, but would a person kill his wife just because she is asking him to do so. If he truly loved his wife, he would motivate her to live on and try to get her out of whatever depression she was suffering from. I feel he was stupid for what he did.

Even if she wanted to die I would think a husbands job is to try and giver his wife reasons to live rather than this. Couldn't have been easy for him to do.

There should be a system established so that if a person wants to die they can apply for it, be counseled against it, and if they still wish to die, be allowed to die how they wish. How is it freedom to be forced to live if you don't want to? If the husband's story is true, then society forced him and his wife into this position. If he is lying, society gave him a trick to use in court.
