Police in Tokyo have arrested a 61-year-old man on suspicion of stealing bicycle seats.

The suspect, Akio Hatori, was quoted by police as saying he started stealing bicycle seats from parked bicycles in Ota Ward in retaliation for the theft of his bicycle seat in the summer of 2018, Fuji TV reported. Police said Thursday they found 159 bicycle seats at Hatori’s house.

He was identified from street surveillance camera footage after he stole a bicycle seat on Aug 29.

I swear I read a story about something similar a few years ago. I don't think the guy stole the seats because it happened to him, rather It was a fetish thing... we do live in strange times that's for sure.

I guess while on Japan, I’ll stop saying “l’ve seen it all.” These nut jobs keep surprising me. This guy needs mental help.

Weird.

It seems the Japanese, unable to express their frustrations to sympathetic listeners, tend to act out it odd ways like this man and the toilet blocking policeman.

Thankfully, this regular type of weird borne of anger and frustration behavior in Japan doesn't usually result in violence like it often does in the U.S and other nations.

this is really UNBELIEVABLE to be true.

Stealing a bike seat is one thing but that many did not get his original seat back either.

Could have prevented this if the police had used CCTV to catch the one who stole his seat.

I won't be the first time a guy was wronged by an individual but took it out on innocent people. Lots of wars like that.

As punishment, the victims should all have him ride all the bikes he stole the seats from for 10km each bike without the seats.

Hell hath no fury like a senior citizen deprived of their bike saddle

This guy obviously has a few screws loose. This should be in the entertainment section.

Yep. 159 people all stole your 1 bicycle seat. Eye for an eye. 159 seats for a seat.

Took revenge a bit too far. Now it just becomes wasted time.

Imagine if his victims had each gone onto steal 159 seats.

As a paid-up cyclist, my bikes have saddles.

Who wants to bet he sniffed them after he got them home
