Man shoots woman and her father in Tochigi

I checked the JT page this morning and thought great no murders or senseless violence today... Guess I thought too quick.... Damn optimism.

this little snippet of journalism fails to mention if the poor woman is still alive or not.

Moderator: If she had died, the story would say so.

Okay, she has a big fight with her boyfriend and he beats the crap out of her. Later, a totally un-related stranger takes pot-shots at her and her father for no apparent reason. Sounds reasonable.

Is gettin shot in the Tochigi life-threatening??

Japanese people seem to have a marked propensity for committing random acts of violence or sexual assaults, then running away like cowards. I bet after he shot them, he cut a lock of hair from a random little girl's head and went home and sniffed it in the dark while naked. No doubt when they catch him, we'll get his reasoning: "I was stressed out because of work and I wanted to relieve my stress."

Dude it's a remodeled air gun... I.E... BB gun... They conveniently leave out details of the injuries.... They were probably released from the hospital already...

More of the same old story about some Japanese guy that felt neglected by his mother so he has to go out and beat up some woman, old man or child...

I tell ya... These guys have got balls the size Bowling balls and mouths louder than a chihuahua, until they realize it's after 8pm, it's dark out and there's no one around to help them...

usually a newspaper headlines that says "shoots" implies a gunpowder projectile, unless it clearly says otherwise, which this attention grabbing article doesn't do until the very last. It leaves out the nature of the injuries, which probably aren't all that severe, given the nature of the gun.

Curious, though, how the police reckon it is a remodeled air gun if all they have are the injuries.

An air gun can still give a nasty wound at close range although, how does one 'remodel' an air gun? They either work or don't. Just another flipped-out loon carrying out a cowardly act on those incapable of retaliating. Let's just they get this knob head before he really hurts somebody.

Some air guns are serious weapons. Napoleon used air gun snipers, and yes, they did kill people. I think it is important to keep that in mind when discussing air guns. They are not just toys.

I have seen remodeled air guns draw blood and break safety goggles. I have no idea what the limit is in terms of how powerful one can be made. But I do know that it does not take much to break the legal limits.

In Japan, airsoft guns are legal, but may not shoot with a muzzle energy above 0.98 joules. Legal requirements are set on airsoft model manufacturers to prevent any possibility of a replica weapon being converted into an actual firearm. I've only been able to play once so far here in Japan, but even at 0.98 joules it can definitely sting and as one poster commented already it can actually break skin, as in leaves a scratch and a bit of a welt. If it truly was a modified airgun that was used then I'd have a hard time believing that the injuries were life-threatening...

Well look at the JT crowd assumming again. Its my wifes inlaw yes she can identify the guy. He used to beat the crap out of here all the time. She filed with the local ocha dippers who as usual do nothing. The guy has been stalking her for a while. I dont know the particulars on the gun but she is still in the hospital last I heard.

This is about 40 miles from our house, but the guy is supposed to be from gumma, but gumma also connects to tochigi so it could only be a few miles away too.

I would also like to comment that about 12 years ago the rules changed on Air guns as they only needed to have the barrles hardend and a firing pin in place to make them a real gun. Even the clips were damn accurate on the automatics and only needed simple changes to accept bullets.

Anybody can make a zip gun and a savy person could get the bullets from the local yak. As well most japanese in the tochigi area can get a firearms permit and purchase a shotgun or rifle for sport hunting. Either of these projectiles can be shot from simple plumbing parts.

Like I said I have no indepth information on the gun involved, but I could fashion somthing up in a half hour that would be deadly just wandering threw the local kanseki.

Japanese model guns are often propelled by gas. There are many ways to circumvent the laws so the authorities are constantly trying to tighten them up. The legal propellant is 'green gas' or carbon dioxide, I believe, but if you change the gas to a more powerful type (now illegal to do so) or block the pressure release valve you can greatly increase the firepower and shoot pachinko balls. Shattering car windows is no problem, for example. I imagine that this is roughly what the cops in the article are talking about.
