You don't need a metal knife to cook food, you can use plastic knives, anyways all you need to cook food is a heat source.

There is a high probability that the nanny state is going to ban crossbows because of this one isolated incident. I am not a fan of free-for-all weapons possession, but I am a fan of freedom. In the recent past, the government also banned knives over a certain length, with an apparent exception for kitchen cutlery, and over-night made perhaps millions of innocent people into criminals.

The chances were that he was making his way through to his home on a wing and a prayer pedaling in severe pain. Um. He's got some guts making it home in any way with the arrow stuck into his calf. Well done!

And they were already knee-jerk over airsoft guns.

Fact is, this isn't America and isn't ever likely to be like that. Japanese people are generally not murderous and deal fine with regulations on weapons. So I am in no way in favor of a ban on crossbows just because this headcase used one to attack somebody.

Bear in mind that women are still being regularly slashed with knifes, but how many crossbow incidents do you know of? The government has better things to do.

I really wonder what the reasoning for allowing crossbows is. I seriously doubt they are legal for hunting, and there's a very limited choice of shooting ranges in Tokyo, unless you join the batting crowd

Yeah, crossbows are legal and some of the gas powered air-soft guns, which are aslo legal, are powerful enough to pierce skin and do serious damage. This guy is obviously a loon. Let's hope he is charged with attempted murder and removed from society for a very long time.
