Man slashes schoolgirl with knife in Nagoya

A man on Sunday night assaulted a schoolgirl on a street in Kita-Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, police said Monday. According to police, the girl, 13, was walking home after finishing softball around 8 p.m. when the suspect came up behind her. The girl told police the man grabbed a softball she was carrying and threw it at her.

The girl said that as she turned to run away, the man came at her with a knife and slashed her pants. Police said she wasn't injured because her wallet in the left back pocket of her jeans protected her from the blade.

The suspect fled on a bicycle, mumbling to himself, the girl was quoted as saying. According to the girl's description, he was in his 40s and was wearing a white cap and black clothes.

I'm not one to generalize but "Japanese society is falling apart."

There seems to be quite a few of these random weirdoes who hang around schools here...

This is nuts.

If you asked "Person A" (male) to write a list of 'Things I would like to do with a young teenage girl", I wonder just how many Japanese men would write:

"Throw a softball at her," and "slash her with a knife."???

I'm not in any way, shape, or form, implying he should have done anything illegal to/with her, but to chuck a softball at her and then attack her with a knife???

Crazy......

This is one lucky girl, the wallet in her pocket saved her. Hope they catch and castrate this SOB as soon as possible.

I'll bet the guy who was caught wearing a schoolgirl uniform at a school could have taken care of this guy...

Personal security will soon be the next big business here if this kind of thing continues. Knife proof clothing, pepper spray and more. Sad to see the nation head this way. At least the violent ones at home usually have a financial agenda. These random attack guys are far more creepy.

tkoind2 - I advocate bulletproof vests, motorcyycle crash helmets and poison gas-proof lunchboxes for all Japanese kindergarten kids starting fiscal 2010.

Has it been a full moon every day in Japan for about a year now?

So thats what those oversized LV knock-offs are good for...

Well, now we have a very good reason why we should carry wallets in the back of our pants!!

But what effect will these recent attacks have on Japanese society as a whole?

Maybe it's time for kids to receive regular self sefence classes at school.

Very fortunate she wasn't injured. And yeah, I think self defense classes would be a good thing too.

What is going on lately, the first five or six articles are about people killing or attempting to do so. And, almost are all by knives, why aren't we talking about banning knives?

why aren't we talking about banning knives?

Yeah right! Death by sharpened chopstick!

How the hallabit can you even think it is even remotely possible to ban knives? I guess you eat pumpkins like apples. This kind of crap is gonna continue and it is gonna get worse. I remember a line from The Adams Family movie when Wednesday was going to a costume party, but she was stayed in her normal clothing. A woman asked her who she was dressed as and she replied, "I'm dressed as a homicidal maniac cos they look just like everybody else."

kevlar lining is light, inexpensve and can be put inside any kind of clothing without any noticeable effect, Japan might just be going into a big kevlar buisness....

"the suspect fled on a bicycle mumbling to himself"

there's the key obviosuly yet another nutter. Lucky for the girl she wasn't injured. I really wonder why so many people are going off the rails these days.

Lucky school girl. I'll say it again. There is an epidemic in Japan. Madness is catching.

God help these nutters if I ever see one on the street

Daylight savings Time could have helped prevent this: 8pm would still be daylight if DSL was implemented in this fine country.....

Going to and from work everyday is going to be a new adventure for me with all these crazies over here in Japan. Its like you never know who will go off the deepend. I'm always ready for anything to happen, I want to get my wife a police baton and show her how to use it. I get worried now that she sometimes comes home late from work. God forbid anything to happen, I wont let the crazy go untouched by my hands.

I see a lot of school kids coming home from school as late as 8:30pm here in northern japan, DST is a good idea or at let the kids be home earlier than that, it would at least get them away from danger. Not to overgeneralize but majority of crimes happens at night.

If Japan was using day light saving and just shifting 2 hours forward, it will be pretty bright at 8pm. How needs a bright sky at 4am anyways...
