Police in Tokyo have arrested an unemployed 48-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he slashed a 47-year-old woman with a knife outside a bar on Saturday night.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 7 p.m. in Suginami Ward, Fuji TV reported. Witnesses told police the man and woman were arguing in the bar and when the woman left, he followed her.

Police said the man, identified as Kentaro Yamaoka, accosted the woman outside and slashed her on the cheek below her right eye.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment but is in no danger, police said.

Police said Yamaoka and the woman had known each other for about 10 years through their association in a music group. He was quoted as saying he wanted to blind the woman because he was angry at her for stealing a piece of music he composed.

Wow, I'm surprised he wasn't quoted as saying, "I was drunk".

Bloody psycho... why would a normal person say "I want to blind you for nicking my music!" Blind her? Who thinks of blinding someone for a non-visual art form? Bonkers! I hope she can recover mentally from the attack.

Maybe he was blind drunk. It was good for her that the knife had missed her eye.

Concealed weapons permits would have prevented situations such as these.

Actually, it was a concealed weapon that cause the victim to be slashed.

??? how? are you trying to say that if he had a permit to carry the knife, he wouldn't have slashed her?

Is it just me or did the last 3 crime reports involve 47 & 48 year olds? Or maybe my brain isn't functioning yet this morning?

How about pole weapons in the hands of bar staff, with tasers replacing the blades?

Yeah, if he had just shot her, he would have prevented himself from slashing her.

Seems legit.

He wanted to blind her? What the heck is wrong with this guy? Both of these people are in their 40's and 'supposed to be' mature adults. I hope his admission of intent to mame is enough to get him thrown in the slammer for several years. That will give him time to compose some new music, jailhouse blues.

Quote shocking on both parts, slashing at anyone is not a resolution to anything.
