Yes in Kanto area Saitama is the biggest prefecture therefore its going to have the biggest amount of crime. also less police to patrol this large spread out prefecture. As city hslls have not increased police numbers here for years.

Agreed Saitama is way bigger than Tokyo prefecture but houses a lot of people that work in Tokyo.

By your reasoning, Alaska, Patagonia and the Outback should have "the biggest amount of crime" compared to Anchorage, Buenos Aires or Sydney.

I don't know about per capita rates, though Saitama seems to have more than it's share of violent crime, but I'm pretty sure Tokyo-to's rate is higher than anywhere else in the Kanto.

Additionally, Americanhonor, how does the abundance of police in an area have any direct correlation to the actions of people who are either bent on committing a crime or are mentally deranged? There has to be some form of respect for the law (which the police represent) or fear of the police themselves or fear of the penalty of caught - none of which apparently was the case here.

People who always jumps on Saitama because they already had hatred instilled in them of Saitama. Not sure if that's what happens if you live in Japan too long or what. If your opinion is based on what this website reports, go count crimes from the past 2 weeks and you will see Tokyo has much more crime articles than Saitama. Go ahead and count......

Tokyo-to most certainly has a higher per captia crime rate than Saitama. But Saitama does otherwise suck. Until quite recently, it was home to most of the dirtiest and poorly regulated garbage incinerators. But beyond that, have you spent much time in Saitama? It's a depressing place with about two historic streets in Kawaguchi and some semi-wild areas on the border with Gunma.

Yep, that's pretty much it Jeff, except there's Kawagoe's historical area as well. Other than that, it's the equivalent of New Jersey to New Yorkers.
