Man stabs neighbor in leg, slashes face over noise dispute

Well looks like both will have no more complaints about noise. Takuo Miyamoto is going to jail and kicked out of his apartment.

Police believe that there had been a history of trouble? Didn't they know? Of course they did！However,they are very reluctant to take sides or as I found to even look at evidence of wrongdoing. Usually,one neighbor has to move,suffer in silence or resort to violent acts. Being a foreigner I moved but many Japanese are not financially able to do so......

Difficult to tell who is wrong in the dispute! The one taken by the police is guilty of using a knife, but if the other one was an aggressive man and tried to step into the house or something. Who resorted to a physical aggression in the first place? Mr Kawasaki was inside his own home so the knife could have been a occasional weapon... too many ifs!

TV Asahi quoted police as saying that Miyamoto confessed to stabbing his neighbor, who lives opposite him, but claimed he had something to say in mitigation of his crime. Police believe there was a history of trouble between the men, which flared up when the victim banged on the floor in response to noise coming from Miyamoto’s apartment.

They live opposite each other and banging on the floor in response to noise coming from ACROSS the way set this guy off?

Sounds like somebody has some serious issues that need a doctors attention. Mitigating circumstances? Geez if this actually floats with the cops I am going to have to start reconsidering how I deal with my sometimes noisy neighbors!

... so, the attacker makes enough noise to irritate the victim into banging for silence... and then the attacker claims HE was provoked and pleads mitigating circumstances? ... am I getting this right????

Lots of stabbing and slashings over the past year. I'm glad that the Japanese don't carry swords like thier ancestors did many many years ago. Scary to think about how many stabbings and slashings if they still did.

I hope my upstairs neighbor reads this. Maybe I'll be able to get some sleep tonight.

Not so sure that's as common an occurence as crazies in Japan stabbing and slashing each other, which happens basically every day.

I'm sure glad we have paper thin walls here, so it doesn't take much to make a lot of noise and for your neighbors to hear everything. And I'm glad Japan has its people housed and packed so tightly together in the smallest amount of space possible...Not like back in the USA where walls are better insulated, dwellings are more spacious, and people have yards and aren't right next to each other. Yup, that sucks!

Yup! And I'm glad that Japan has so many people who are passive aggressive and don't know how to communicate effectively, so that I can't rock out to AKB in my apartment at night without risking a neighbor coming to my door and gouging me with a knife. Yep, awesome bro.

I remember when I first came to Japan and I had a nutjob living above me who was extremely loud and rude. I tried several times to talk to him; knocked on his door or tried to approach him when I saw him outside, etc. His response was to run away and then kick in my door when I was away the next morning. I wanted to call the police but the landlady suggest I move instead.... ahhhh.... until the freak, which he was in the end, ended up moving out and they had to renovate the whole apartment at their own expense (walls full of holes, feces and garbage all over the place, etc). Perhaps if they put as much effort into getting rid of people according contract as they do trying to avoid getting rid of such people this thing would be less common place.

Crazy. Some people just don't think before they act...now he can have silence for life in Jail.

A true story about my neighbors playing ping pong in their open garage until 2am when they first moved in.. (They are foreigners too BTW) Step one: kindly ask them to stop. Step two: kindly ask them to stop and tell them if they can't live by Japanese rules and manners, Go Home. Step three: call police Step four: call police. Step five: talk to town leader. (I also had support from all the home owners in my neighborhood) Step six: call police, town leader Finally: one more complaint and the government evicts them. The guy in this story should have been patient and taken the proper steps.

So, the "perp", Miyamoto causes a disturbance with noise, the nameless victim bangs on his door, and gets stabbed for his "transgression"...

Most rental offices instruct tenants to not make "personal complaints" to other tenants; to inform their offices of the problem, and allow them to handle it-obviously that "service" was not effective, if even in use...

Getting stabbed was a high price to pay, in addition to a guarantor fee, for peace and quiet.
