Man stabs woman in Daiso store; says he just ‘wanted to kill someone’

Police have arrested a 30-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed a woman in the neck at a Daiso 100-yen store in Tokyo’s Hachioji district on Wednesday night.

According to police, the suspect, Yuki Ishino, stabbed a 46-year-old woman shopper in the neck on the second floor of the store at around 6:20 p.m. He used an awl which was on a shelf.

Ishino then went downstairs to the checkout and told the woman at the register that he had just killed someone. Three male employees subdued him until police arrived.

Police quoted Ishino as saying that he wanted to kill someone and the woman just happened to be there.

The woman suffered a serious wound to her neck but was in a stable condition on Thursday.

Another vile nutjob who should never be allowed back out into society...

I hope that this poor woman makes a full recovery.

It's lucky people don't have easy access to guns here.

wtf is going here ?? is he really serious !! just wanted to kill someone and that women happen to be there, why don't he just kill himself instead would be better than harming other people cuz he wanted to do so. what a mental

It's like these loons don't have a filter - I mean normal people don't wonder what it's like to kill people... and then try it. I don't think Japan is any less safe, I just think the instances of mentally ill people attacking innocent bystanders are increasing... or they're being more widely reported.

"I'm telling you, things have changed."

and that heat wave is on the grind.... nothing but confrontation is on the horizon

Nobnaga - wtf is going here ?? is he really serious !! just wanted to kill someone and that women happen to be there,

This scenario repeats itself regularly in Japan. It's been a bit slow this year. A few years ago there was half a dozen in one summer. And, the victims are always women, children or elderly stabbed from behind. The cowardly loons wouldn't dare pick on someone who might fight back. This is not a new thing either. It's been going on for decades in 'Safety Japan'. As I keep saying, Japan is a safe place if you are a middle aged man. However, if you are a child, women or elderly you face the same dangers as any other country with gun control.

Yeah but not only is she probably scarred for life physically, mentally too just for a simple trip to Daiso. This coward deserves the punishment he gets for attempted murder.

I'm telling you, things have changed. Society is in decline, safety cannot be taken for granted anymore.

No, not really. This kind of things always existed in Japan, nothing new. Crime rate is still going down in Japan. Thats the fact. Just because there had been few high profile cases recently doesnt change anything overall.

Another day in Japan. Hope he realizes that prison is not quite as nice as life outside, and when someone, hopefully, kicks his teeth in they say, "Just wanted to do it.". Amazing what people here will just snap and do because they are so desensitized to life in general. TIJ.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Lets look at the "crime is on the decline" thing from a demographic standpoint. Right now 35% of Japan's population is 60 or older in age. I've got to think that the majority of crime in Japan is committed by those aged 15 to 60. At its high around 1995, 72% of Japan's population was between 15 and 60. Just 24 years later that number has dropped to 61%. That is about a 15% decline. So when Crime is on the decline.... is it really, or is it just that the number of people has declined and crime has stayed the same or even increased.

Had to look up what an ‘awl’ was!

Good to hear the lady survived and hope she makes a full recovery.

"It's like these loons don't have a filter "

a week or two ago on a very hot day I was on a street in trokyo, when the jman walking ahead of me passed by another jman when the two made eye contact they lit into each other, I was surprised, and took off out of dodge completely...

This clown is deranged. He just wanted to kill someone? He already killed someone?

I don’t know what caused his breaking point but I’m happy the woman is in stable condition. Hoping she makes a full recovery and doesn’t end up mentally scarred by that idiot.

This was close.

“I'm telling you, things have changed. Society is in decline, safety cannot be taken for granted anymore.”

Nothing new under the sun. There have always been wackos aplenty here, they simply blend in and most of the time pass unnoticed. It’s only when they’re pushed over the edge that we pay attention.

Their education is not like ours. From childhood, the schools nurture forces of explosiveness and violence in every Japanese as you would put together a bomb, but they have carefully screwed down over them the lid of discipline and self mastery. For this most docile and tractable of human flocks, most of the time the safety stays on. When it doesn’t, watch out!

Not in Daiso!!!???   Is nothing sacred?

Sickening. Why doesn't he kill himself? Unfortunately, there are too many such mental cases in Japan.

B. Jay - Sickening. Why doesn't he kill himself?

Because that takes bravery and guts. It suits his cowardly mental disorder better to attack a woman from behind. I would not be at all surprised if the woman was only 5' tall and weighed around 40 kilos. Such a brave loser!

The formidable pressures of making a decent living to secure a modest place in the sun in Japanese society today must be terrifying for many thousands of weak, broken individuals lacking in self-confidence or suffering from poor mental health who then either turn inwards to self-harm or suicide, or vent their frustration and aggression outwards to injure or kill strangers. Too few of us are willing to face this natural by-product of modern capitalism, most preferring to avert their gaze and refusing to be part of the solution. Cheap, emotional calls for severe punishment and revenge offer no remedy for helping these myriad victims of an uncaring social order, nor can they create a more humanitarian society that cares for its weak and vulnerable members. The ruthless ideologues of the political Right have ruled for far too long (40+ years) producing abundance for the few while creating misery for the many. Capitalism has become worryingly dysfunctional and the inevitable emergence of Sanders and Warren in the USA and Corbyn in the UK is surely a sign of the times urging us to start thinking "on the Left".

I have lived in hachioji for many years. I know of only one Daiso store, which is on the top floor of the Don Quixote store building. So maybe this story should read stabbed on the second floor of the Don Quijote store.

It happened in the Daiso. Which is in the same building, but is not Don Quixote. Why would they report that it happened in a store that it didn't happen in?

Baffling.

How does this comment fit with the fact that violent crime is at an all time low?

Yick, I go to this store like once a week. Scary.

Another lunatic who fell into the cracks of the Japanese mental health psyche. It's always women or children isn't it. Cowardly losers.

Glad she survived. And glad he's going to get hell in jail, no sense in treating his mental illness now, just let him suffer with it on the inside

Note for the next psychopath who thinks the same thing:

You CAN have your wish. Kill YOURSELF.

I think maybe that comment means that this type of crime is on the rise even as violent crime as a whole is decreasing.

@Disillusioned absolutely you nailed it, i have been saying this for a long time too.

Even people from poor countries do better in that they usually have motives for killing someone, still repugnant but " understandable " . Apparently they have every thing in abundance here but....?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

I’m seriously starting to rethink how “safe” Japan really is.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

In the US a mass murder would happen.

I think the government should look into most of their history, i have a feeling the high rate of bullying in schools or the old school Japanese work cultures could have a part in it.

Time to step up morality training in Japan!
