Police said Wednesday they have arrested a 20-year-old man in Sakado, Saitama Prefecture, after he allegedly attempted to murder his ex-girlfriend by dragging her with him into the path of a moving train.

University student Tokiya Yamada is accused of approaching his ex-girlfriend at Wakaba Station, seizing her from behind and jumping off the platform with her as an incoming train approached on Jan 21, TBS reported. The train slowed down but still hit the pair. The girl sustained serious internal injuries, while Yamada also sustained several injuries, including a broken arm, police were quoted as saying.

According to police, Yamada has admitted to grabbing his ex-girlfriend but denied any intent to murder her. Police say they are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led up to the incident.

Just because someone does something seemly crazy doesn't make them crazy or mentally ill. If you go by that logic, all murders would be crazy. Even you you try the French defense of passion, this doesn't fall under right circumstance. Seems like he just didn't want to let go of his ex and didn't want to see her happy without him. Most murder are done by someone the victim knew.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say if you try to commit a murder suicide that the odds heavily in favor that the person committing the act is mentally ill.

That's quite a limb...

Dammit the alignment on that got all messed up just read it boy, girl, boy, girl and it should make sense.

"I love you so much that I tried to throw us in front of a train! I must really love you, right?!" "Yeah, I guess you really do love me but......" "We should totally get back together!" "But the trying to kill me thing......" "Oh don't worry about that, now we are back together I will never need to kill you again!" "I guess that makes sense......" "See we're all fine now! Just as long as you never leave me.....................or touch my stuff."

This guy is a real "Stan". She's lucky to alive. She probably did something vindictive or hurtful to warrant this.

But will they get back together again? I hope she recovers.

Another reason for platform gates. Once those are installed these stories will simply disappear

Mental illness is a real serious issue that needs a lot of government support. This problem is not going to go away unless serious changes are made so people can be educated and seek help for their problems however big or small.

so, after he dies, he's going to feel great that he was able to reap some kind of revenge on his bird....

yeah, thats the way to go. seriously! smart guy!

Now I see why she left him.

Poor guy was way too enthusiastic about making it to the front of the train.

20 years old?? Cool this Darwin Award Winner is an ADULT by Japanese Law, so HANG HIM NOW! Idiot fool! Poor girl, I hope she recovers soon and that they kick this dorks ass inside and own 24/7 for a few months/ years and then suddenly do the J thing about surprise! Chikamatsu Monzaemon would be disappointed with the material he would have to work with these days. Whatever happened to two people committing suicide together so they could be reborn on the same lotus in the Pure Land as they could never be together in real life? Murder suicide by train just doesn't have the same production value for a bunraku play.

He is dead and I'm sure the woman had no idea what kind of person he was. It goes to show how delicate all of our lives are. I'm looking though you all the time.

If he felt sad and pathetic before trying to kill her and himself, how sad and pathetic does he feel now?

Soon there will be a place you can go for assisted suicides...

The problem is jerks like this don't just want suicide. I hope the poor girl recovers. And maybe they won't give the guy his pain meds.

Getting hit by a train is a terrible way to die. I still don't understand why this is the preferred method of suicide in Japan.

Soon there will be a place you can go for assisted suicides... and if you want to donate your organs you can do that as well... some people are worth more dead than alive.

Another day, another mentally ill Japanese person taking their bizarre frustrations out on others.

Where does it say that he was mentally ill??? He just seems like a self-centered selfish little ****. His girlfriend dumps him and all he can see is his own grief and desire for revenge. All I can say is thanks goodness she survived.

The scary part aside from almost getting killed from the train. This guy obviously stalked her to be able to have been in the position to do this. Makes you wonder how many other people are contemplating shoving someone off the platform they don't like. I try not to be in the front of a line or walk along the edge ...don't want to end up as a statistic.

Loony

I think the guy was just a jealous spurned lover. Nothing new in that.

Congratulations to the train driver... and condolences that this had to happen on his shift, it must be intensely traumatic.

As for this selfish, self-centered little murderer, I hope he gets the full force of the Japanese Justice system. This over-grown child has clearly never grown past the "If I can't have it then nobody can!" stage of mental development, and saw his ex-girlfriend as a possession he didn't want anyone else to have. With this sort of mindset I think that 20 years in a Japanese prison might make him grow up a little.

I WAS DRUNK AT THE TIME.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Wow, damn. That's just rude.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

He denied any attempt to murder her?? By jumping in front of a train?? Anyway, I hope they both recover and the man spends a long, terrible time in prison.

overchan: "Saddly thats a global trend, Killing yourself and your lover,."

It is indeed -- seems there are a lot more crazies here though jumping in front of trains. I mean, do you know anyone who actually gets upset upon hearing an announcement that there's been a "jin-shin jikou"? No, they just get irritated about the delay -- the suicides are daily occurences.

Wrong train line, bro!

It's a damn good thing Japan doesn't allow handguns, you see murder / suicide rates off the charts, they'd make the Mentally Ill in the U.S. look like amateurs.
