Police in Tokyo said Tuesday they are looking for a man who tried to rob a pachinko parlor in Minato Ward in the early hours of Monday.
According to police, the man approached the prize exchange booth and threatened the 66-year-old woman employee with a knife, Fuji TV reported. The man demanded money, but the woman pressed an alarm and he fled empty-handed.
The man is described as being in his late 20s and was wearing a white shirt and black pants.

@Wakarimasen: You are right. In order to operate as none gambling business, pachinko parlors give keihin to players. Then in different palace one business that exchange keihin to money. Exchange business may be owned by parlors. But usually independent. Meaning owner could be a yak kanbu and his mother, wife or relative or just a business man. As long as parlor does not give back money in parlor, they do not have to register as gambling business. Kerin,Keiba etc and lkujis are gambling.

This guy has balls. also i thought the prize exchange booth was not officially part of the parlour itself..... Or was he trying to steal some smokes or a teddy bear?

Every Pachinko parlor features, "Lupin the 3rd" (a popular pachinko machine featuring slick thief -Lupin- with a small crew of accomplices) . . . Maybe he thought the so-called "prize exchange" office would deliver the real "loot."

That has to be the stupidest thing you can do, I don't think the police is what he has to worry about at this point.

Aha. I remember reading a similar article JT brought up on the 23rd of February this year. The only difference was that the previous robber had got away with 2.1 million yen.
At any rate, it's really good that pressing the alarm workd well this time and the would-be robber fled empty-handed.

Japanese robbers just aren't what they used to be. Recently a robber pulled a gun on a bank clerk, and got "no" for an answer.
