Police in Tokyo have arrested 75-year-old man on suspicion of obstructing police in the performance of their duty after he tried to set fire to a police officer, who was guarding Crown Princess Masako’s family home in Meguro Ward.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Fuji TV reported. The suspect sprayed a female police officer in her 20s with insecticide and tried to ignite it with a lighter. The officer was able to knock the lighter out of the man’s hand and subdue him until help arrived.

The man, who was reportedly drunk, was quoted by police as saying he attacked the officer because he hated police.

What the heck! What sort of loons are they breeding in this country? He attacked a young woman in her twenties who wears a uniform. Well, now he can take out his hate on the correctional facility officers who will be taking care of him for perhaps the rest of his life.

I honestly doubt he'll get much time.

Most people hate police, but to set a young woman on fire...

He is 75, he is more along the lines of a demented old fart.

Wow, people are losing their minds at a fast pace.

If he held a grudge against the police they will be wanting to know when and why. Other news sources say that he is not making much sense though...

Obstructing police? More like attempted murder!

Or at least assault and battery. Maybe this guy has a problem with women -  or maybe women police guards. You know there's still some clods who think women should be 'kitchen slaves' or 'barefoot + pregnant'.

Nonetheless, him being trashed or not - there ain't any excusing this kind of behavior, especially since she did nothing to remotely deserve this.

First charge, arson, ( or equivalent in Japan) second attempted murder,

So the fact that this happened outside of Princess Masako's house is totally irrelevant. He just wanted to attack any police. When you read the headline, it read like he was trying to set fire to the house or something like that. But, he was just a nutter with a rage against the police, and perhaps women.

The man, who was reportedly drunk, was quoted by police as saying he attacked the officer because he hated police. So now at the ripe old age of 75 he decides to act on his hate for the police, Well I think he maybe homeless and needed three Hot's & a Cot for awhile. And on the other hand I hope she gave him a real good old fashion beat down. When people say they hate the police, How can you hate someone you don't even know ??  I think they really just hate the uniform and the authority behind it.

Excellent.  sprays her with insecticide and THEN tries to set her alight.  Seems like a deluded old moron.

How can anyone hate the satsu in this country?  Especially the cute young women satsu?
