Man, two youths detained over mugging spree

13 Comments

Police in Yokohama have arrested a man and two minors for a mugging that took place in May.

According to police, a 21-year-old man, who has been named as Kohei Suzuki, and two accomplices aged 18 and 16, who cannot be named under Japanese law due to their age, were arrested this week, TBS reported Thursday. The three, who were working for a Yokosuka demolition company at the time of the incident, are accused of mugging a woman at knife point in Yokohama's Kanazawa Ward in May.

The three are accused of threatening the 67-year-old woman with a knife, before dragging her to the ground and stealing her bag. Police say the woman sustained a back injury during the attack.

The men are to be charged with one count of robbery and assault. However, police are currently investigating the possibility that the three were involved in seven similar incidents, which were reported in the area on the night in question between 12 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., TBS reported.

So there is no "mugging spree" confirmed?! Only a suspected one?

In any case: >The three, who were working for a Yokosuka demolition company...

That's all you need to know, right there.

@Knox Harrington

What are you trying to say, that if you work for a demolition company you are a criminal? I worked for a demolition company for 2 years and never committed any crimes what so ever, nor did any of the other people I worked with, 99% of the men and women I worked with were hard working people just trying to make a living. I am sure that some white collar workers commit crimes from from time to time, it is not just us lower class people!

Japan is different this way: if kids can't pass the exam or qualify to enter high school, or they decide to skip it, they can go to work right out of junior high school, ideally in a vocational program. These two boys might have been aspiring apprentices before this.

Absolute cowards. The 'minors' are old enough to work and rob, and yet their names remain hidden. No doubt they'll just get a slap on the wrist.

Can you imagine the physical and emotional trauma experienced by the victim?

It would be nice if they hung this 21 year scum and make the 2 younger punks witness the execution to make them think of their own stupidity!! Poor old woman!!

Perhaps we should use demolition equipment,such as dynamite, to teach all three of these thugs a lesson.Messy but effective.

Yea! Recidivism plumets in the face of such punishment. Perhaps for the individual that is convicted but not for society in general. Violence perpetuates violence.

Like many Japanese news stories, the most important fact is delayed til the very last sentence: SEVEN muggings occurred that night in the same area.
