Man waiting for taxi stabbed by assailant who 'wanted to kill someone'

Police have arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed another man who was waiting for a taxi in Tokyo's Shinagawa Ward. The suspect was quoted by police as saying he just wanted to kill someone, Fuji TV reported.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday in Higashi-Gotanda. The victim, who is in his 60s, was waiting for a taxi when he was stabbed in the back, police said.

A witness called police who rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect who was still in the area.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was in a stable condition Wednesday, police said.

The suspect told police he chose the man at random and said he just wanted to kill someone and that anyone would do.

deja vu. RIP and lock up this pathetic attempt of a man for the rest of his life.

Kobe, the victim isn't dead... he's in a stable condition... but yes, lock up the assailant and throw away the key.

Kobe White Bar Owner: Not sure if the content has changed since you first read it (I'm guessing no, since you posted a minute ago), but the victim hasn't died. In any case, given this happens almost daily and the 'reason' the same, it's excusable that you missed it.

Is it just me, or is this "I just wanted to kill someone" line becoming more and more commonplace? Scary as hell.

Something is wrong HERE! Japan says for the most part Japan is a safe country, how does one consider themselves safe in a country that prides itself as being safe when you have not one but MANY people lately saying what this guy told the police. "The suspect told police he chose the man at random and said he just wanted to kill someone and that anyone would do". Is it really safe?

Is it really safe?

Yes.

Mr. oidal:

" I doubt that! A 33 year-old coward picked an old man and ambushed him. Let's see him pick on someone his own age and give that person a chance to defend themself. I think not! "

He did not pick a fight, he suddenly stabbed someone from behind. That can happen to you even you are young and strong; in fact I remember that happened to Japanese MMA pro a couple of years ago.

"a 33-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder... just wanted to kill someone and... anyone would do"

What again?? Yes again, but nothing JT can say will EVER convince me otherwise: Japan is a law-abiding country with a low crime rate!!... ;-)

Someone please hand this guy a rope in his cell and tell him to try his urge out on himself.

3 options for your paranoia: lock yourself inside, go out everyday with protection or move to a country that you think is crime-free.

@DaDude - "options for your paranoia: lock yourself inside..."

The Japanese do just that! ひきこもり (hikikomori) is what they call it... :-D

But wait, they're always boasting to me that Japan is the 'number one safety country' and that the only crime is done by foreigners! Something's not right here!

Japan is still safe these incidents are rare, but normally it is during the summer, it is getting colder so i was expecting the nutters would get back to their hiding places.

That would be... err... Bhutan? But I understand even Bhutan has some occasional crime.

Hopefully the victim will make a full recovery. As to the suspect, he should be caned and then be hanged. It is shocking that any violent crime especially this act occurs in Japan. To the best of my knowledge, Japan is one the safest countries in the world. It is my understanding that Japan has strict weapons regulations, has a highly educated population, has a culture in which one commits a crime shame is brought to the entire family and also has police koubans scattered throughout the country all the way from Naha to Wakkanai to ensure optimal safety. As a result, there should be "0" violent crime in Japan.

Maybe Japan should emulate Singapore as far as penalties for crime being that Singapore seems to be the safest country on earth. Singapore doesn't appear to have any of these random stabbings or other attacks. Something needs to change in Japan as far as penalties on crime and dealing with mentally disturbed so it can be as safe as Singapore.

I notice they stay clear from mentioning the person's love or not of games. In the states they would usually state that they found the person had wrapped their life in on line gaming and want to try it in real life. Wonder if this is the case for so many of these here in Japan.

Having majored in Criminal Justace it is really a common reason for murder. or attempted murder when they murder failed as in this case.

Have a nice day and always be safe!! Also, watch your back too.
