A 20-year-old man went on trial Monday for killing his mother and chopping her body into pieces.
The man, who was 19 when he killed his 43-year-old mother in their Kawasaki apartment in March of 2013, cannot be named because he was a minor at the time of the crime.
Prosecutors told the court that after the suspect's parents divorced, his mother dominated him and in order to break free of her control, he brutally killed her, Sankei Shimbun reported.
The suspect's lawyer told the court that being dominated by his mother had caused him great stress. The son had almost no outside contacts and tried to commit suicide on a number of occasions.
The court heard that the defendant stabbed his mother to death, then dismembered her body in the bathroom, cutting her into at least 15 pieces using kitchen knives. He then kept the body parts in the bathtub, which he filled with water, before starting to dump them piece by piece in plastic bags.
He left home and was arrested about two weeks later. At the time of his arrest, he was quoted by police as saying he simply did not like his mother.© Japan Today
