Man who dismembered mother goes on trial

A 20-year-old man went on trial Monday for killing his mother and chopping her body into pieces.

The man, who was 19 when he killed his 43-year-old mother in their Kawasaki apartment in March of 2013, cannot be named because he was a minor at the time of the crime.

Prosecutors told the court that after the suspect's parents divorced, his mother dominated him and in order to break free of her control, he brutally killed her, Sankei Shimbun reported.

The suspect's lawyer told the court that being dominated by his mother had caused him great stress. The son had almost no outside contacts and tried to commit suicide on a number of occasions.

The court heard that the defendant stabbed his mother to death, then dismembered her body in the bathroom, cutting her into at least 15 pieces using kitchen knives. He then kept the body parts in the bathtub, which he filled with water, before starting to dump them piece by piece in plastic bags.

He left home and was arrested about two weeks later. At the time of his arrest, he was quoted by police as saying he simply did not like his mother.

I find "dominated" a pretty harsh word... maybe tried to "discipline" him ? (Divorced mothers don't have the "easiest" of jobs bringing up their offspring all alone). As for :

The son had almost no outside contacts

There are many (young) Japanese who prefer to "stay at home" playing games on their computers. At 19 shouldn't he have either been in university ? Or looking for a job ?

Well, he was there and you weren't.

It's not like there are no mothers like what he complains about in the world.

Not saying he's right to do it. But definitely possible he could feel that way about domination.

Look at the mom in the other JT article today, killed (or involved in) killing one kid, that sentence suspended, then killed her 3-yo by throwing it against the wall.

Maybe this guy's mother was almost like that, and he just made it farther along in life.

Dang, he must have had some serious hate to go as far as he did. Sad it ended this way and really wonder how far his mother really pushed him. But I do know how boys do not like to be told what to do by their mothers and have witnessed knives being drawn to threaten. The mother no longer tells him what to do.

Do not worry .. you will get suspended sentence ...!!!

that's an unusual collocation because parents don't really "dominate" their kids. i think "domineering" would match the story better.

@turbotsat

You are obviously NOT a divorced-single mother...

why Japan still insists 'up to 20 years' is a minor?

isn't the age of consent 18 ?

minor should be 15 or younger....

This guy is sick.

Pink team, (pastel) blue team ... transference ... how do you know I'm not? Just because I didn't agree that a single divorced mom couldn't dominate her kid? Because the kid was there and I wasn't?

Obviously, something went wrong there. Most children of single divorced moms don't kill anyone, let alone their mother.

Maybe he had a mechanical imbalance, and his idea of "dominate" wouldn't be ours. Or maybe he was totally right. Or some other thing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyoiku_mama

The kyōiku mama is one of the best-known and least-liked pop-culture figures in contemporary Japan. The kyōiku mama is analogous to American stereotypes such as the stage mother who forces her child to show-business success, or the critical, self-sacrificing mother who coerces her child into medical school or law school. The stereotype is that a kyōiku mama is feared by her own children, blamed by the press for school phobias and youth suicides, and envied and resented by the mothers of children who study less and fare less well on exams.[2][3]

I remember the story. That guy is sick. He should be out of the gene pool for the sake of society. Hang him.

A sever episode of undiagnosed bipolar.

Oh, ok! Crazy much?

How often do we have to read about these macabre killings before something is done about the mental and emotional state of the locals? It's at least once a month or more that somebody kills their parent or a parent kills their kid. There are two in today's headlines. Yeah, they write it off with stress or some other pathetic excuse like being drunk and not remembering. However, the sad truth is, they are nuts! Wake up Japan! Your inbred and totalitarian culture has created the world's largest island asylum!
