Just plain silly. They know your name. Where you live. What you look like. It's not like he had a go bag in his car with fake passports, cash, and hide out in Thailand.

Japan needs to stop treating these guys like they've murdered 10 people and are on the run for the worst crime in the world. If anything they should be trying to do whatever it is to rehabilitate these guys who are just using stimulants for themselves. Now if the guy was producing and selling... that's another story.

It would seem the cops didn't find any stimulants in his home though.

Not mentioned in this article is that Fujiki also has a record. He was previously convicted on stimulant drug charges in 2015.

In some jurisdictions such a disclosure, if true, would jeopardise a fair trial. Let's see how things pan out under Japanese law....

Doesn’t sound like a very well planned arrest. If he was in the house when they arrived how did they allow him to get in to a vehicle?

It is rare that a suspect escapes in the presence of police. Even if he escapes, it is most likely that he gets arrested soon or later any way. It's been working fine. Why change?

Besides, the main reason for the police being there was to search for evidence, not an arrest. 「その日は、逮捕ではなく家宅捜索の予定で、藤木容疑者の自宅に行った。」(https://dot.asahi.com/wa/2019071400011.html?page=1)

Last thing Japan needs is people stimulated, other than using an unapproved drug (before dragging police down the road, (and I suggest "let it go" by the way) did he cause a commotion of any kind? Violence?, theft?, smiling in a non smile space.

5 police were there only because of the stimulant thing? And really hanging on to a sport utility unless they have super powers what were they thinking.

Doesn’t sound like a very well planned arrest. If he was in the house when they arrived how did they allow him to get in to a vehicle? If already in a vehicle why was there no police cars ready to block him in? I agree they were right not to blast away at an unarmed man (don’t know why Japanese police need to carry guns as a matter of course, it’s not as if their society is so violent or gun happy that they need them).

Why did the guy bother to run? Not a career criminal so unlikely to be able to hide out for the rest of his life, just made things worse, and he just gave him self up anyway.

This guy unfortunately decided to intoxicate himself using a drug not on the list of approved intoxicants. Big mistake. People in Japan should make sure that the only hard drugs they do are ones that are approved, such as alcohol.
