A man who stabbed his ex-wife on a street in Isehara, Kanagawa Prefecture, in May, and then caused a car crash while he was fleeing from the scene, was jailed for 12 years by the Yokohama district court on Thursday.
The court heard that the 31-year-old woman was attacked by a knife-wielding man while she was walking her child to school at around 8 a.m., Fuji TV reported. A local resident called 110. The woman, who suffered a knife wound to her neck, was hospitalized for several weeks, but was able to identify the assailant as her ex-husband, Shimon Sadakari, 32.
Sadakari left a blood-stained knife in a nearby parking lot. About 50 minutes after the attack, he was involved in a four-vehicle crash at an intersection in Hatano, seven kilometers away from where his ex-wife was stabbed. When he was arrested, Sadakari told police that he took a lot of sleeping pills prior to the crash.
Prosecutors had sought an 18-year jail term for Sadakari.

I am kinda surprised..but happy. Here in Japan you can KILL someone and only get 7 years. So seeing a person get 12 for attempt, make me to happy.

Review laws in other countries, in various jurisdictions, for example the US, attempted murder conviction can lead to 5-15 years in prison.

"for example the US, attempted murder conviction can lead to 5-15 years in prison"
And most of the time they get released after a few years or sometimes less because all the prisons and jails are way too crowded, smh.
