Man's body found in Osaka apartment building

The body of a man was found inside an apartment building in Tennoji Ward, Osaka, early Tuesday morning, police said. The man, who had been stabbed to death, was a resident of the building, police said.

According to investigators, at around 3 a.m., a passerby noticed the body in a pool of blood on the first floor of the building. Police said the man was dead upon their arrival, and that he had been stabbed in the stomach and was lying face up. He was identified as Koji Okada, 57, a resident of a 4th floor apartment in the building.

A trail of blood led up from his body to his apartment. Police believe Okada was stabbed in his apartment before making his way down to the first floor. He was wearing no shoes and his apartment was in disarray.

I went down to that area last year to see the Tennoji Zoo.. That has to be the roughest and most dangerous part of Japan. It was like being in a third world ghetto, like poor China. Besides the Zoo a nasty sight the people all around it were drunk, yelling, smoking, in the afternoon.... and selling smut or gambling outside the zoo. I remember actually turning to my wife and saying... People must get killed here often (Tennoji Ward)..... This was a money thing as usual and I expect bodies to pop up in this area over the next decade until most are wiped out.

It amazes me that people here immediately cry Yakuza. Most murders would not be done by the Yakuza who would not like to draw attention to themselves. In this case my2sense has a good argument. Around where this guy was killed are street hawkers, gamblers, and drinkers. All living right on the poverty line. This could have been a dispute over the proceeds of a cheap Chinese knock-off LV purse that led to murder.

Has suicide been ruled out? I mean according to the desperate living conditions described anything is possible?

Well THIS is interesting, VERY interesting!!! Not the article itself, but all the comments.

My husband is from Tennoji-ku, and he is always telling me how posh he and his family are!!! I believed it - how would I know any different? But whenever we go there I dont get a good vibe from the place, and it doesnt look all that posh to me. He seems to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder because I come from a "good" area in the UK.

Well well well!

It's rather difficult to stab one's self and then drag yourself to the pool to die. I'd say it's ruled out.

It doesn't seem like an argument, as the wound is in the stomach. Most people in a fight use an up to down slash. Most gangs know the stomach is an incredibly painful way to die, especially the Yaks. But it normally takes a long time to die this way, he should have been able to find help (no phone or neighhbours?) So he was possibly very badly wounded in the stomach causing external bleeding and a quicker death. To me it sounds deliberate and profesional and with malice.

@ maxpower: Considering he had to get from the fourth floor to the first floor, all while being badly wounded, he probably couldn't move too quickly.
