Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in the mountains near Tanabe, Wakayama Prefecture, on Tuesday.
According to police, a road maintenance crew discovered the partially decomposed man's body, wrapped in a blue sheet, six meters down a slope beside a road at 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday. Fuji TV quoted police as saying that the man had no identification on him. He was in his 40s to early 60s, about 175 cms tall and clad in a long-sleeved T-shirt and sweat pants, but was barefoot. Police believe the body was probably dragged out of a car and then pushed down the slope.
Police said there was a knife wound in his right side.
