Miniskirt Police singer nabs groping suspect on train

Yukiko Hachisuka, 23, a pin-up girl and member of the pop group Minisuka Police (short for Miniskirt Police), grabbed a man whom she says sexually molested her on a train, police said Tuesday.

According to police, Hachisuka had gotten on the Odakyu line at Shimokitazawa station after work last Friday. She told police she felt herself being groped around her rear end for 10 minutes. Just before arriving at Mukogaokayuen station, Hachisuka grabbed the groper's wrist and held onto him until the train pulled in to the next station where she handed him over to the station staff.

Police said the suspect, identified as Yoshiyuki Tamura, 43, has admitted to the charge. He was quoted as saying, “Initially, the back of my hand just touched her rear end, but I guess I got a little too excited.”

I'm probably as horny as the next guy, but making the jump from looking or even brushing accidently to actually groping is just shows a total lack of control. And let's fact it, how hard is it to control yourself in such a situation? Men who grope are like children with no common sense. Grow up!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Pukey, look at it this way. When you are standing on a train, who is in control of your body? You or someone else? If an attractive person is standing next to you and you both accidently bump into each other due to the train stopping, who is still in control of your body? No matter what way you look at it, you're the one that makes concious choices with how and where your hand moves afterwards.

She could be a porn star for all I care, and I still wouldn't start feeling her up even if she was in a mini skirt etc. People need to remember, "You are responsible for YOU" can't blame others for your actions unless there is mutual consent.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It doesn't matter what she does or what she was wearing, she has the right to ride the train without being groped.

No matter where you go, there's always gonna be the image of sexy women, after all, sex sells, but just because you see it on T.V. doesn't means that all women should be treated as sex objects. The man is guilty no matter what spin you want to put on it, and to blame the young lady because of her job is ridiculous.

As for why it took 10 minutes, the train could have been crowded and she couldn't be sure if he was touching her or not, once the crowd thinned out and he was still touching her, she realized what was going on and stopped him.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I find it laughable that she would continue doing this minisuka pori thing. This police thing degrades women and invites molesters. While she was a victim in this, I would find her to be very hypocritical if she were to continue doing this smut in public.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow, she is a cutie in the pic, but no matter if a woman was sitting buck nekkid on a train, I wouldn't intentionally want to touch her. Sad that this man was getting hot just because his hand brushed against her... Pathetic and weak mentality this bloke.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Good going, Yukiko! Hopefully, this will be an encouragement to other women to be courageous, and to gropers to watch out (but in the latter case, I doubt it seriously)....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

People say "look but don't touch," but many times, looking can get in trouble too!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Good for her! The juxtaposition of her work and her attitude only reinforce my opinion of Japanese music being 100% manufactured.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Interesting discussion on both sides! I live in Fukuoka so the trains aren't crowded like they are in Tokyo. Never been groped nor have I seen anyone else being groped, but then I'm rarely on a train that is so crowded that would make the crime easily committed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm really tall so it's great riding the trains in Japan.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The reaction part is illegal, but the action part deserves also a "closer examination"

You're probably just joking around, but do you mean "the action part (the groping) is illegal, but the reaction part (the citizen's arrest) is perfectly legal"?

Second note: Kudos to you, Hachisuka-san!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Just the idea, other protection that might be possible is that for individual that has constant fear in a train of groping, can somebody invent something that they can wear, possibly a small plastic plate with belt (accordion or fan type) inside or outside their skirts or pants. Make it small enough and easy to change that can fit into handbag."

Utterly disgusting! Yet another excuse to blame the woman if she doesn't have said plastic plate and wasn't riding the women only car. Can't possibly be the man's fault, and can't be proven that it was. I agree with cameras, but beyond that, you're asking that women be responsible for the actions of sick men who cannot control themselves

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No offense to anyone actually a victim of assault or groping on a train but this news article sounds kind of like a publicity stunt. I mean comon Minisuka Police...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Limits should be placed on trains to prevent overcrowding, I wanna press charges against anyone who pushes me on a train.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

kinniku; Authorities have done very little in the past decade. They really need to install security cameras on these trains. There should be a signature petition from the riders and present to Mayor or Director of Transportation addressing the concerns. Poster does not solve problem because everybody's aware of this already.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sfjp330,

The authorities certainly do have to think of ways of handling (no pun intended) this problem. I am not too sure if women will want to wear a 'plastic plate', however. Why should they have to? I think there needs to be a poster campaign, 'Look, but don't touch.'

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Re: kinniku 8:26pm, 15th Jul "She wanted to in fact make sure she was being groped and that it was not being done by accident"

If you accuse somebody of groping and the accused denies this, it becomes his word against yours. In most cases, you have not witness. In Tokyo, how many cases were dropped because of insufficient evidence and how many were convicted based on denial by accused with no witness. I believe low percentages were actually convicted. The conviction requires "beyond resonable doubt" which is difficult with no witness.

On a train, to have possible third party witness, they should install a hi-resolution security camera with large camera number next to it so that in a accusation such as this, the accuser can provide a camera number and time of accused assault. The security camera can deter some people knowing that they are being watched.

Just the idea, other protection that might be possible is that for individual that has constant fear in a train of groping, can somebody invent something that they can wear, possibly a small plastic plate with belt (accordion or fan type) inside or outside their skirts or pants. Make it small enough and easy to change that can fit into handbag.

Please, Yukiko-chan, arrest ME! Please put me in handcuffs .... ahh this was one lucky man!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think there could be good reasons she did nothing for 10 mins. 1) Theres no way of knowing in advance, just HOW weird a weirdo might get to be, when any attempt to stop their actions is made. He might have been carrying a knife. 2) Having made a decision to have him arrested somehow, it would take a while to think of the best/safest way. 3) Giving him the idea perhaps she liked it, or didnt mind, made him MUCH more vulnerable to being caught when the best opportunity arose. 4) Taking him by the wrist, without making a scene, might easily have convinced him he was onto a good thing, so that until she handed him over to the station cop, he was still hopeful.

The poster who write about 'little tarts' and all those who make comments against innocent women whose style of dress they disapprove of, show support for gropers, & are probably gropers themselves.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Which is correct? "Touch until told not to" "Touch only when told it is okay to do so"

Surely it depends upon the situation,

Yes, in this situation it was on a train and it is reasonable to assume 'touch only when told it is okay to do so' is the rule to follow.

hope that in some manner the woman in question communicated the fact that she was displeased with the man's attentions.

Yup. She had him arrested...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She told police she felt herself being groped around her rear end for 10 minutes. Why did she wait for 10 minutes to do something? Is there really 10 minutes between the two stations?? Sounds like she liked it and then saw the old fart and then decided he was not her style and dragged him (what a wimp to let a young girl drage him to a station attendant, why did he not run off?? Japan is a really messed up place with slutty looking women tempting and torturing those old poor bastards.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

After touching her inadvertantly, was the man to know that the woman did not enough being touched?

Obviously not all sexual encounters start with verbal request and verbal statements of permission.

Which is correct? "Touch until told not to" "Touch only when told it is okay to do so"

Surely it depends upon the situation, and other non-verbal communication that one recieves too. I don't think that the situation necessarily precludes the possibility of consent.

I hope that in some manner the woman in question communicated the fact that she was displeased with the man's attentions.

Abromofo:

To all the gaijin men who think they've been felt up on trains in Japan: It's wishful thinking!! In my opinion it's EXTREMELY unlikely that the girl intended to do anything. Contrary to popular gaijin belief, most Japanese girls aren't gagging for a piece of you.

You're right, it is unlikely. Most aren't. But it does happen. Same in the reverse situation: most men aren't train gropers, but there are a few and they are active.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

look but don't touch...simple really. keep your hands to yourself.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Northlondon said it all. And as a wise man said sometime ago, for every action there is a reaction;)

The reaction part is illegal, but the action part deserves also a "closer examination":)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

How many times do we have to say that it is hard to be sure if you are really being groped, or just being touched inadvertently because of the crowdedness and movement of the train? Have none of you ever accidentally touched someone's butt on the train? I'm sure I probably have. Would you prefer it if those women you accidentally touched had grabbed you straight away and yelled chikan? No, they probably waited to see if it really was on purpose before falsely accusing someone, and that is exactly what Hachisuka did- kudos to her.

I have heard that Becky claims to have caught about 20 men touching her on the train- care to speculate how many she falsely accused and therefore now have had their lives ruined?

The only person at fault here is the groper. Doesn't matter what she was wearing or if she was wearing no clothes at all or how long she waited to accuse him- touching people like that is a crime.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sfjp330,

As I and others have pointed out, people do actually bump into each other by accident. It is entirely possible and realistic that she wanted to in fact make sure she was being groped and that it was not being done by accident. She also could have been waiting for the train to stop at a station before accusing the man. I respect her ability to keep her wits and remain calm and to be able to have the courage to identify her attacker.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Anyone that supports the Miniskirt police may be sick. Go watch a video of them on youtube and you will understand how she is partly responsible for creating this monster. Hopefully she will learn enough from this to realize that her actions have consequences. Many Japanese men think woman are inferior and just objects because of the minskirt police. She should quit that group and start protesting in front of the TV network that portrays woman like that!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"She felt being groped around her rear end for 10 minutes". Waited 600 seconds to say NO. Does this make sense? Sounds like for a while she might've been enjoying getting attention. Who knows.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That is a great uniform ( except for the dumb necktie ).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You people think these guys just pop up out of the ground and start groping people for no apparent reason ?

No, I think they lack self control, just as most if not all criminals do.

There is no defence of such a crime here.

Yet, you are making excuses and blaming the victim. It does strike me as defence of the crime by way of excusing it.

But a citizens arrest by a girl who wears blue plastic miniskirts in order to become famous is kind of sick to me.

One, she was not wearing the blue plastic miniskirt on the train. Two, she can walk around wearing whatever she wants and she still has the right not to be groped if she doesn't want to be. Nothing excuses or explains that. I would wager most if not all of the men clicking this article find Yukiko attractive. However, I would also wager that these same men would know it is wrong to grope her on a train and would exercise self-control no matter how many Miniskirt Police videos or songs she has sung in.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There is a huge difference between what is portrayed on TV or entertainment venues and what is acceptable behavior in a public location. It doesn't matter what anyone is wearing. Touching without an invitation isn't allowed in polite society. And 43 isn't old, but it is old enough to know better. 16 is old enough to know better.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I love the miniskirt police but man if she didn't want to be felt up then she should have done something about it after it was apparent that it wasn't an inadvertent touch. But like a Dinosaur it takes that long to sink into these little tarts heads that it wasn't just a mistake. Sorry he's guilty but she's also to blame for letting it go that long.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Maybe the delay was that she went through several emotional stages denial->fear->anxiety->anger. Whatever the cause for her delay in doing something she didn't like it and grabbed him so that he could be turned over to authorities.

I don't buy this nonsense that implies, "she was asking for it." The guy is responsible for his own actions, yes even if she was naked. Have some self control for goodness sake!

Smith, perhaps you don't know who the Miniskirt Police are.

There are a couple of links above, you tell me how they portray woman or ask a Japanese woman what she thinks of them or better still, send the links to a woman living in the "west" and ask if she approves.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

smithin Exactly! The many western people do have a misplaced idea of what a geisha is thanks to the media and an actress that would take money to propel that myth doesn't help much.

I assume you don't have any daughters of your own or you would better understand how f'n frustrating it is to deal with all the tarted up sluts on TV. I want my daughters to be respected and not treated like a piece of meat, and this little chicky is partly responsible for men thinking it is okay to grab a feel.

And by the way, most feminists around the world are against porn and the portrayal of woman as sex objects.

If you find no fault in how she acts it may say a lot on your own views of woman!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Interesting. JT prints a publicity photo of the victim in her costume and a lot of people assume that's what she was wearing on the train. I'm sure a sociologist somewhere could write a paper on that phenomenon.

Here's my two cent's-worth on the story...

The guy is guilty. Period. You don't start fondling strangers without expecting to visit a jail cell sometime soon.

The only problem I have with her actions is she let it go on for 10 minutes before giving him an indication that his attention was NOT wanted. Yeah the first contact could have been inadvertant, but after 30 seconds or so, even the ditziest blonde would realize this was intentional. So why let it go on for 10 minutes?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

the japanese women i know, would grab them by the balls and make them appologize, or straight punch them in the mouth. they're not really afraid to go to those beach clubs they call jails in japan.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well done, Yukiko-san!

He was quoted as saying, “Initially, the back of my hand just touched her rear end, but I guess I got a little too excited.”

See, that right there is what seals this guy in my bad books. In a polite society, if his hand brushed her rear end, he should say, "Oh, excuse me," then reposition himself so it doesn't happen again. Even on a monstrously crowded rush hour train, he should make the effort. He certainly shouldn't KEEP TOUCHING HER because he "got a little too excited." I agree that media in general -- Jmedia perhaps especially -- often portrays women as objects, but media portrayals do not a truth make, ne? If more women did what this young woman did -- grab the groper and take him to authorities -- then maybe we'd start to see a change in that portrayal and in society.

Why did she wait 10 mins? I assume -- and I admit it's only an assumption -- that she wanted to make sure it WAS groping and not just the unfortunate realities of a crowded train, and then she wanted to make sure she didn't grab him until they reached a station so he wouldn't have time to get out of her hold.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Advertising works, if a baseball player is on TV selling beer, beer sales go up, if the media portrays woman as objects, woman get treated like objects."

So you are a clown with no ability to control yourself? Do you believe people are so weak that they MUST molest women because the media portrayed them as objects? Well, you may be, bud, but the majority of men are not criminals and can do without groping. A magazine may sell sex in order to get you to buy it, and that magazine IS an object; if you can't distinguish between a magazine and a human being, that's a serious problem, but not societies.

Do I think the media has some problems? Yes. Do I think they focus on sex to sell things? Hell yes. Even the JT picture of the day often features the kind of pic displayed above, if not 'worse'. I hope in the future that that is less the case, and particularly in this society there is too much flaunting of it. But NOWHERE does that excuse what this man did or let anyone off the hook, nor does it make this women in any way deserving of what happens to them.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And then we get the womens libbers and the liberals saying what a good job she did !

oooohh! she was asking for it eh? gagging for it was she?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Have to agree proxy. If she is willing to dress like a stripper and tease old men like the one who groped her for money then she can expect some type of karma from it. Both of them are as bad as each other and both deserve their little karmic interlude.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why are so many ready to excuse this dirty old man who touched up a young girl on a train? He didn’t know who she was & we have no idea what she was wearing, though that makes no difference anyway. She waited ten minutes to be sure that he was a dirty old man rather than scream & get an innocent man locked up so she is found guilty of that too. Had she not done that & had him arrested after the first touch you would all be saying she is a paranoid & he didn’t do anything.

She’s 23 years old using the assets she’s got to make a lot of money & probably having some fun along the way, in a short skirt. So when did that become a crime?

This dirty old man is out of control, he could have gone for a school girl next if this hadn’t happened & then what would these defenders of dirty old men have had to say?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He probably didn't see her as a person, just an object and she is guilty of helping him have that perception. I believe he is wrong in his perception, but the entertainment industry in which she freely works is guilty of warping his mind.

And yet another sexual assault issue on this site. Awhile ago I was talking to Nigelboy about these things happening two or three times in six days -- seems it's several times a week now. Part of the problem is that people are too willing to side with the criminal and look for problems with the victim.

Nope. The problem is the media fixation with these type of stories including JT which goes out of their way to "translate" crime stories while just relying on Kyodo for other sections.

Northlondon...doesn't matter dude. If a whore arrests a rapist would you complain or feel better knowing one less rapist is out there? (Assuming he is guilty) You have several weak posts. Doesn't matter what she does or how she dresses or how much sex sells. You can pay anywhere to get your rocks off with a young chick and if these frustrated guys put more time n effort into looking better and pleasing women..they could get more sex.

Moderator: Stay on topic please. This discussion is not about sex.

was she wearing her minisuka police outfit? If so maybe that can be used in this guy's defense. Anyway, good for her, gropers should know that women aren't going to take it anymore.

northlondon: "Hopefully she will take a good look at herself in the mirror and think about her life and the effect it has on some vunerable men the next time she goes out to sing for 'miniskirt police'."

Awwww.... of COURSE the woman here is the criminal in all this. It is utterly disgusting that people will come to this man's defense, and stop kidding yourself or trying to water it down by saying 'no one says there was no crime' or what have you. This man committed a crime, and groped a young woman. Attitudes like yours, in fact, are the ones that allow and even encourage men to keep doing what they do, because they have sympathy, a waiting ear, and best of all -- a 'friend' who will ultimately turn this on its head and blame the victim, asking her to 'take a look in the mirror'.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She has objectified herself and all woman, in his mind touching her, an object in no different than touching goods in a department store. Who hasn't ignored a "Do not touch" sign at least once.

“I also said it was illegal. But [that was your justification, you excuse, your defence] anyone with half a brain and half an education knows that it is a crime borne out of sexual frustration”

Sexual frustration is a normal enough state in any man (or woman) but it is no excuse for not controlling one self & whatever the images a man is surrounded by they still have a social responsibility to control their actions & when they fail to do so no excuse, especially one that shifts the responsibility on to the victim, is acceptable. Where would you draw the line, are you going to go on & say that rape, though obviously illegal & horrible, is understandable because the girl was looking sexy?

“I don't wear tight leather shorts on the trains and I don't model for gay magazines for a living so I would have every right to punch his lights out and then talk about it afterwards.”

Also where in any of this does it say what Hachisuka was wearing? Neither of us know & she might well have been wearing a big jumper & baggy trousers. But it would make any difference what she was wearing.

“Who said that the constant sexual imaging and advertising thrown at men these days gives anyone the right to commit such a crime on the train ?”

You did! “And young girls prancing around on TV wanting to be famous in a blue plastic miniskirt is not really going to put a stop to groping on trains is it ?”

No, but having the freaks arrested or having their “lights punched out” might go some way to teaching people they need to use some self control.

Sorry if I seem to have touched a raw nerve, but maybe it is you that needs to lighten up a little. I see some very beautiful sexy young ladies around & I am man enough not to be bland to them, but, even when my wife goes away for a month or two, which she does twice a year, I still don’t do more than look, as I am sure you do. So why give the out of control idiot a defence that neither you nor I would allow ourselves?

kinniku, good to meet up again with you too. Hope your having a good day/life.

a citizens arrest by a girl who wears blue plastic miniskirts in order to become famous is kind of sick to me.

In order to become famous. I like that part. Great imagination. Sick? Who? What? What makes me sick is the kind of attitude where the woman is blamed for being violated because of the length of her skirt. Or men are exonerated for sexual abuse because they are bombarded by sexual imaging, etc. and can't help themselves. Now that is pathetic. I don't know what Yukiko was wearing on the train, but it is irrelevant. She did a good job!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

anyone with half a brain and half an education knows that it is a crime borne out of sexual frustration

Well you got that right at least. Luckily, there are many men around who have a whole brain and a full education- they even have self control.

And yes, we do get the irony. Your point, that she contributes to the objectification of women through her actions, is valid. However, it's spurious logic indeed that condemns a woman when she uses her 'talents' in a society that doesn't allow her to succeed in any other way, damns her when she is attacked- and then damns her again when she fights back.

"They offer you a feature on stockings and suspenders while applauding stricter penalties for sex offenders", said Billy Bragg, I believe. He was of course talking about England's media, but the same obviously applies here.

Bragg had the sense not to attack the woman who is in this case between a rock and a hard place- raised in a society that offers little alternative to cute and airheaded, in which money can buy you anything, sexual crime is swept under the carpet (or has a price on it in a hostess bar), force-fed cute until it becomes her raison d'etre and then gets attacked. You make a good point, but you're shooting the messenger in a sense. That she had the guts to stand up is commendable. In the grand scheme of things it probably won't amount to much, but at least she stopped the problem on that day, in that place, from happening any more to her.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

0 ( +0 / -0 )

grafton, you need to lighten up in life and use that thing called a brain to try and work out why people commit crimes in the first place. Who said that the constant sexual imaging and advertising thrown at men these days gives anyone the right to commit such a crime on the train ? Who said that ? Nobody did. Try reading other users posts properly. And your comparison argument about car advertising is rubbish. There is no comparison between a constant human urge (sexual attraction) and a one-off selfish act of car theft. What if a gay man took a fancy to me on the train ? Another rubbish comparison argument. I don't wear tight leather shorts on the trains and I don't model for gay magazines for a living so I would have every right to punch his lights out and then talk about it afterwards.

You manage to insult every man that has the self control to look but not touch & you give lack of self control as a defence. The world is full of images of girls with few or even no clothes on, does that then mean we as men are freed to use these images as an excuse to abuse the rights of women? I have seen the images of some seriously nice cars that there is no way I could find the money to buy, so, can I use said images to justify steeling one of these cars? Let’s play a little game with your reasoning, what is a gay man were to take a fancy to you on the train, will you afford him the same defence?

Sarge at 09:22 PM JST - 14th July “This is the best photo ever accompanying a crime story.”

Balony. It is a crime and it is a sign of a completely lack of control on the part of the groper. Women could wear burqa and chador and they would still be groped by these idiots. Making excuses does not change this fact. Abuse is abuse and assault is assault.

Tamura: um, yes well, it all happened when...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Angelo is right on the button and nobody else here quite gets it. Groping on the trains is an act of sexual frustration. Men in Japan are bombarded by television shows with girls in bikinis, girls dressed provocatively in miniskirts in the street, gravure idols advertising whatever they can advertise, bands called miniskirt police. So men without a decent sex life, men without a partner, or men without an attractive partner, will fall foul to sexual frustration. Nobody here has defended the act of groping as anything but illegal. However the fact that this girl who is actually a part of the whole 'selling sexual attraction as a product' industry has reported a guy to the police for his act of sexual frustration, is extremely ironic to some of us here. Hopefully she will take a good look at herself in the mirror and think about her life and the effect it has on some vunerable men the next time she goes out to sing for 'miniskirt police'.

I am sure that this is not the only available picture of Hachisuka that JT have access to, but I am also just as sure that it is the perfect picture for this story. Given that she was the victim of a crime there was no need to show a full length in costume picture of her, but what a wonderful way of feeding the fish & thereby generating comment. As for how she was dressed on the day, I doubt very much that she goes home by train dressed in a blue plastic mini skirt or anything like it. When my sister was younger she worked as a bra model for a few years, & she did wear baggy trousers & an enormous jumper when not working, so it would be wrong to assume Hachisuka’s personal dress style is the same as her work style. But really it would make no difference, a prostitute in a bikini could get on a train after work & still have the right to not be touched against her will. And as for the ten minute wait, I agree that she did the right thing & waited to be sure about what was really happening & good for her for doing so. The bottom line (no pun intended) is that whatever her job & however she looks nobody has the right to touch her against her will. Thank you JT for a very cute picture of a very pretty girl.

When will ladies take responsibility for their own explicit sexual projections?

When will some people who haven't yet finally realize they have no right to touch another person without their permission no matter what kind of projections they imagine are being projected?

There you go, another victimized female! The picture tells it all.

When will ladies take responsibility for their own explicit sexual projections?

Is it safe to assume that she let the guy feel her arse for ten minutes (probably got off on it), but still decided to spoil his day and whilst gaining some much needed 自己PR?

Hey! Where does it say that she dressed like that in the train? Its just her photo from her band, it doesn't mention in the report that this was the dress that she was wearing. I don't think you can wear this and not ask for trouble. BUT IT DOESN'T MENTION SHE WAS WEARING THIS DRESS ON THE TRAIN... or the attacker recognized her from the band, for that matter. Its just another girl in the train who got victimized. This time, she also happens to be famous, that's all.

TokyoHustla,

I saw and see the picture. It is a great picture. She is very cute. However, being cute and dressing sexually still does not give ANYONE the right to grope them. It matters only as a point of news that she is a member of the Miniskirt Police, it in no way absolves the criminal of his crime.

This is nothing but logical. I really can't believe anyone can see this as anything more than a crime. Let me put it this way, if someone you know and care about dressed the way Yukiko does for work (she was not dressed this way on the train, BTW) and they were sexually assalted, would you explain it away or would you expect the criminal to be punished. Me? I would expect the criminal to be punished. Nothing excuses unwanted sexual assalt. It is just common sense.

kinniku,

It does not matter how she is or was dressed. It does not matter what she does matter what she does for a living.

Obviously it does. Look at the picture in this article.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

bless her for putting up with it for ten minutes. and those that say anything about the way women dress - no one has the right to touch you like that at anytime unless you specifically invite them. those that touch without permission are sick.

northlondon,

It does not matter how she is or was dressed. It does not matter what she does matter what she does for a living. If she doesn't want someone to touch her and especially if no specific invitation to be touched has been given, she should not be touched on a train. It was plain wrong. This happens way too much and to act as though she 'asked for it' is highly inappropriate IMHO.

Yukiko wrote on her blog that she hopes that other women will also speak up if it happens to them. I hope so too. Look, but don't touch.

You guys think she catches the train home from work dressed like that?

Nope. But for a girl who dresses like that for a 'career', I can just imagine how she does dress. And I'm sure it's not brown corduroy trousers and a shetland polo neck sweater..

You guys think she catches the train home from work dressed like that?

LOL.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

We all know that no Woman in the world wants to have sex with anyone!!!! so for women to titilate guys with any thoughts is just bogus!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

northlondon, here is the part of my post you missed.

hope that Yukiko was not clad in this outfit when the incident happened! While groping is not excusable, dressing this way can easily invite attention.

Just because my forum name is that, you do not have to jump to conclusions.

tkoind2,

Haha... If the cute girl wants to be that close, then why not take her to a movie. (And no, not your iPod!)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why on earth don't girls just turn around and say Rack off at the top of their voices??? Why do they have to be so mellow yellow??? Even when they walk down the street getting harrassed by the "rope in the girl" goons who stalk the streets looking for new hostess inductees; all they do is bow polietly as they say no over and over and over again as the goon walks 100 meters down the arcade not taking no for an answer. Ladies just turn around and drop him like a sack of potatoes with an almightly knee lift to the groin for crying out loud....well maybe not!!!

Liberal isn't a dirty word anymore. I don't think anyone missed the irony, but thanks for pointing it out.

jackfish, what exactly is your point anyway ? People here are jumping up and down saying stuff like 'well done girl' and 'excellent work'. And here is a girl who has decided that her way up in life is to dress up in a blue plastic miniskirt outfit in a band called the miniskirt police. Not based on vocal talent, but on how she looks in a blue plastic miniskirt. And then people start talking about justice for a crime of what boils down to sexual frustration. What a joke.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

tkoind2, you expected her to move away when the crowding eased? but she did not..and by the sound of it you didn't move away from her either, which i am am supposing was an available option also, unless she had you pinned into the corner of the carriage..lol Perhaps she did not move because she did not want to draw attention to the 'uncomfortable' closeness by 'declaring' it suddenly unacceptable. An embarrassment becomes a greater embarrassment when it is acknowledged as existing..moving would have acknowledged it.

Entrapment with that sort of clothing.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I really dont see the point in touching a woman against her will. Its like believing all women love to be groped. I also smell something strange in this: the mix of miniskirts, police and the man letting the woman held his hand for ten minutes feels strange to me.

To all the gaijin men who think they've been felt up on trains in Japan: It's wishful thinking!! In my opinion it's EXTREMELY unlikely that the girl intended to do anything. Contrary to popular gaijin belief, most Japanese girls aren't gagging for a piece of you.

Northlondon, these aren't the bush'n'blair years. Liberal isn't a dirty word anymore. I don't think anyone missed the irony, but thanks for pointing it out.

Welcome to the "real world"of trains here in Tokyo. At least times have changed, though the Odakyu train seems to be more of the same. I remember more than a decade ago, seeing a young guy pretend to be sleeping while sitting down and leaning into the stacked young lady sitting next to him with one hand purposefully resting on the adjacent customers prolific parts. She for her part just chose to ignore it! I couldn't believe my eyes as the Akihabara geek looking type guy faded into her chest over and over, while pretending to be dousing off each time he'd get a feel.

A few weeks ago the train was massively crowded and a cute girl ended up smashed into me with neither of us able to move away. I went on watching my movie on ipod until the train emptied a bit. Then I expected her to move away. But she didn't. Instead she just seemed content to say right where she was.

To be honest I was a bit uncomfortable and wondering what her motivations are. I am fine if someone is friendly. Even flirtatious. But pressing yourself against a random stranger after the train is no longer crowded isn't exactly normal behavior. Cute or not, it seemed a little bent.

So I guess this kind of need for contact must be more common to both men and women here than we like to admit or expect.

Last week I saw exactly the same thing. It wasn't one of the Minisuka Police though :-) The girl grabbed the guy's wrist and refused to let go as he tried to escape into the crowd. I got swept out of the train as he pushed through the crowd, and then joined a mob of salarymen chasing the guy! Several people grabbed him, and he gave up running. When the station staff appeared he pretended to faint. Pasty little otaku git. It was actually funny to see how weak he was when confronted. Anyway, my point is, Japanese girls don't take this anymore, and the general public step in to help! Way to go! It was on the Tokaido line at Kawasaki station.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

hahaha, doing her job!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Who knows why it took 10 minutes. My guess is when she or he got on the train the grope was not obvious. By the time the doors closed on the next station, she knew...and had to wait until the next to grab him, or he would have probably run.

Now she needs to write a book!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Does nobody else see the complete irony in this ? A girl who dresses-up in a blue plastic miniskirt outfit for a group called the miniskirt police, hands a man over to the cops for an act of sexual frustration ! And then we get the womens libbers and the liberals saying what a good job she did ! I guess Miss Miniskirt Police was wearing a baggy sweater and dungarees at the time...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Excellent work. I hope to see miniskirt police introduced across the nation. They couldn't be any worse than the regular keystone Jcops.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well done girl. If a few more like you and the highschool student who grabbed the groper act smart this way, maybe the Jland will be free of this menace. But then again, the electronic and print media are full of images of groping. I even saw an ad where the bar girls enact the groping scene. The bar girl was old and was in a school uniform!

I hope that Yukiko was not clad in this outfit when the incident happened! While groping is not excusable, dressing this way can easily invite attention.

10 mins? what was she waiting for? a rubdown and a shiatsu?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It does happen the other way, I (a male) was on my first day on the job at a HS in Japan and while walking past two girls, one pushed the other and she crashed into me while copping a feel of my genitalia. Good times.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

One of my male university students told me he was felt up on loopline train in Osaka. He waited until the doors opened, and then stepped aside and pushed the woman out onto the platform.

Maybe the level of threat is different for men and women, but in the States a case would be made out for sexual equality, ie they are the same crime either way. Here in Japan, things have not quite progressed that far yet.

At least this guy admits it, and while the reason may seem weak, we know he is probably telling the truth.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I can't think of a better person to be handcuffed by!! Get more miniskirt police and I bet the groping rate will increase.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

While 10 minutes is a long time, it can actually quite hard to be sure that what you are feeling is groping- have you ever been on a crowded train and felt like someone was touching your butt, only to find out that it was a bag that was touching you? Most women I believe don't want to wrongly accuse someone, as that person's life would then be destroyed. You would want to be really sure.

notimpressed, women, feeling up men on the train? That has to be pretty rare. No matter how good-looking the guy, I can't even begin to imagine wanting to do that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree that it is alot less threatening when it happens to a man rather than a woman, so it is difficult to compare situations. The women are also alot more subtle with their methods. But since male foreigners usually are afforded a wide space on trains, it is usually easy to identify a female intruder.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

true jackfish, a Japanese girl told me yesterday that Japanee Women are also known for doing this kind of thing, probably most men just don't complain.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

jackfish,

Exactly.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm sure many of us have been on the train and you feel something brush you and you think, is that intentional or just the train moving? It happens a couple times, and finally you give someone a dirty look. Perhaps 3 stations have come and gone, so its been 10 minutes. I don't think the groping is always blatant - its often disguised as a "natural" occurrence and so it is isn't easy to sort out exactly when it happens. And it isn't just men who go for a little physical contact on the train.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Just another day in wacky Nippon....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"I got too excisted" J-blokes really are just ridiculous. Also, maybe she waited 10 minutes to be close to a station so she was sure of getting him into the hands of the "authrities". Good looking girl.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Actually, it seems to me that Ms. Hachisuka was just being cautious. As the suspect mentions himself, at first he did not intend to grope her. So, she probably just wanted to make sure he was really groping her and not just bumping into her. When she was sure, she grabbed him. I think that it is great she was able to keep her wits about her and confirm that a crime was actually being committed against her.

By the way, I have not read any other articles about this. However it does not specifically say she was wearing her outfit when she was on the train. In fact, it would not matter anyway. It does not matter what a person is wearing. Their clothing should never be taken for an invitation to break the law. That is...unless you want to be arrested.

Miniskirt police > Sakura Police

so she was dressed up in this miniskirt police uniform and letting the guy touch her for 10 mins? come on, this is stupid. please also let her share the cell with this guy.

Beware of the miniskirt police!

0 ( +0 / -0 )
