Model Shannon Dancy arrested on drug possession charge

Japanese-American model Misa Shannon Dancy, 28, has been arrested for possession of synthetic narcotics, police revealed this week.

The biracial model, who works under the stage name “Shannon Nagamine,” is the daughter of an American father and Japanese mother. She was arrested last month at her Tokyo residence in Nishi-Ikebukuro, Toshima Ward, Fuji TV reported Thursday. Police said Dancy has admitted to the charge.

Police said they began to investigate the model last year after receiving information that she possessed illegal drugs. On Dec 10, police searched her apartment and found one MDMA (ecstasy) tablet.

Aside from appearing in women’s fashion magazines, Dancy was cast in a number of television commercials, including the department store PARCO.

I wonder what nationality she is? Does "Japanese-American" refer to her ethnicity or to her nationality? Is she a dual national?

The convention for crime stories in Japan is to describe foreign suspects by their nationality, ie, their passports, not their ethnic background. For example, if a Tamil Malaysian is arrested, the arrest report would describe them simply as a "Malaysian."

Born and raised in Japan and having a Japanese mother, living in Tokyo then surely she has Japanese nationality.

Arrested after one MDMA tablet was found?

Must be a major bust for Japan.....

The damage to this girl from this drug being illegal, is exponentially worse than that pill of MDMA would have ever been.

And someone must have told the police on her. Poor girl. She got screwed by both a friend and the law on this one.

Poor girl.

Yes. Getting caught knowingly breaking the law.

Poor girl.

Yes. Getting caught knowingly breaking the law.

Legality and morality often diverge.

So yes, poor girl.

One “e”. WTF! What do japanese police do? My guess is it took at least 10 police to spend a year to investigate her. Then one more year for her one “e” to go before the prosecutor. I would estimate $100,000 for this prosecution.

the person/s who reported her my be laughing, but my tax money could be better spent on stalkers, hit and run, corrupt politicians etc.

i don’t like drugs and believe meth dealers should get life sentences, but one “e”? She is an adult and has world wide experience. One in four under 40 year old British people have taken an “e” or other recreational drugs. At a cost of $100,000 per person...8,000,000 people...

Quite the martyr then. lol

Give it a rest. She wasn't saving a baby's life, she was knowingly buying an illegal substance just to get some kicks. She knew the law, whether it's right or wrong.

She got screwed by both a friend and the law on this one.

No needs to worry. How many celebrities caught with drugs here have done time? A press conference with an apology to all of us who could care less and she is free to go.

It has nothing to do with celebrity, first timers almost never get jail time in Japan.

But that's not the point - even if one doesn't go to jail, they still get a record, and all the crap that goes with that. Ridiculous for the possession of a pill.

1 pill? That's not illegal drugs, it is illegal drug. Seems like someone might have dropped it behind a couch at a party. The cops should have flushed it down the toilet and left.

This search was motivated by something not in the story.

Surprised they didn't charge her with "distribution", since clearly she'd already done that with all the other pills. /s

Bowing, apologies, some tearful fake remorseand you're free to go

Why is this even news? We all know she will not get in any real trouble (jail time for possessing drugs) because she is somewhat famous. Unlike the rest of us, we'd be in jail faster than you can imagine for the same charge!

No, first time drug offenses in Japan rarely end up with jail time.

The real punishment will follow as her sponsors drop her.

Like I really care that this girl is doing drugs. I would only care about drug usage if my children were using drugs as for this girl all I can say is SO WHAT.

The real punishment will follow as her sponsors drop her.

Exactly. People are talking about how she won't get imprisonment, as if that means there is no punishment.

The real punishment will follow as her sponsors drop her.

It’s almost as if she’d never read the news; as if this kind of thing had never happened before...

It’s a good thing she’s good-looking.

The number 1 rule when doing drugs in Japan is don't tell. Keep a low profile or else someone will likely snitch. MDMA can be a useful medicine for depression. If more overworked and underpaid Japanese took an "e", uptight Japan could be a country wearing a smiley face. The police operation to find one tablet must have cost a pretty penny. As a tax payer I'm not amused by the ridiculous waste of time and my money. It's galling to realize that these absurd razzias will come to an end only when the tobacco - and alcohol-addled politicians and policemen run out of our tax money.

Maybe she has PTSD? MDMA is a viable treatment for that disease according to FDA testing.

"Heck it’s been four years, it’s holding so I’m pretty convinced it’s permanent,"Virgil said. "To me it’s the silver bullet for PTSD, it’s the most promising thing for treating PTSD that’s ever come up."

Likely to be legalized with prescription in the USA in the next few years.

I'm still stuck on the 1-pill and she's arrested part.

I still love her.
