Chances are, she was hospitalized, put on medication but when she got out she stopped taking the medication. It is very dangerous to stop taking meds on your own. RIP little ones.

After reading this a second time, this seems like a revenge killing to the husband. She took from him who he held dear to his heart. I can't imagine the pain and hurt he is feeling right now.

I don't blame him for not giving money to her to go back to Japan where she can disappear unscathed. However, threatening to stab him and being admitted to a psychiatric hospital only a month prior tells me she shouldn't be left with the children period.

She knew what she was doing. She deserves to swing from the gallows. Do some states still use old sparky?

Arizona uses lethal injection, but South Carolina just passed a new law that makes inmates choose firing squad or electric chair.

Imagine though, if it was reversed and the Japanese parent was victim though. It would be wall-to-wall coverage with plenty of head-shaking.

This is so sad! I can't imagine a worse death for children, hurt by their own mother. What a terrifying last few moments, not to mention one of them probably saw her butchering their sibling. RIP little angels.

As for the husband, he should be put on suicide watch. I can't imagine the regret, guilt, and horror of having his whole family destroyed in one night so viciously. If I were in his shoes, I would just be totally broken. God knows how you heal from something like that.

And, let that be a lesson to the rest of us. If your spouse is threatening violence towards you and there are children in the house, it's absolutely necessary to get them out of there and to safety. Some wounds you can heal from, but best not to get them in the first place. Better safe than sorry.

This is sounding like a huge fail by the police and child protection services.

That is is the proverbial 20-20 hindsight vision. The children had not been abused before, and they had said they felt safe with both parents.

Can you imagine how many wrong cases there would be if the protection services acted on such a flimsy base?

They had filed for divorce in April and were still living together. They argued about money for her to return to Japan. No doubt it included arguments about whether the money was for three tickets or hers alone.

To be honest, the husband sounds henpecked. Imagine just leaving your kids with her, knowing what she's like.

She just probably has a name that sounds vaguely Japanese. Coincidence that she looks Japanese and can only speak a language that sounds Japanese? Surely, she can't be Japanese, just 'nikkei' because her name is written in katakana. Surely?

Everyone dropped the ball on this.

the police to a lesser extent because they’d been there before and failed to connect the dots.

And DCS because they failed to remove children from an obviously troubled woman who had arguably kidnapped one of her children.

It’s just a horrible shame.

Quite a lot; much more than I have time to enumerate here. I have worked with divorce/child protection issues, thus could say "tons" about it, given time and will to do so.

The crux of the issue is how many would be jumping on this subject had it occurred on a "specific" country, both you and I know its name?

I totally agree with your statement! Also the medication that was problem given to her that she could have been taken could have also made her psychotic. If you ever read the effects of "Zoloff and other drugs the psychiatrist prescribe for you the side effect are worse. The labels tell you the drugs can cause erratic and psychotic behaviors where people do and will hallucinate.

Still not much about this on the news in japan. Because its a Japanese national acting outside of the norm in another country and not a Japanese being killed by someone other than a Japanese so its not reportable.

Personally I think the mother medication made her hallucinate. You have to really understand the effects of these medications. Like any drug they will alter your thought process and make you feel, see and do things you have never done before. This mother has been with her children for at least 9 years for the oldest. Yes, she was probably put on what is called a 72 hour psychiatric hold. When a person exhibits a threat or danger to themselves or anyone they are automatically held in a psychiatric ward. I KNOW I AM SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE!! I had a nephew who talked about killing himself, while at school he was taken to a facility because his anxiety and depression was getting the best of him. While in the facility they drugged him up to calm him down. When I went with my sister to pick him up this 9 year old kid was like a ROBOT. Everything was answered as yes, no and a hard stare. He was not the same person. My sister said she would have rather preferred dealing with his anxiety attacks rather than seeing him walk around lifeless. After releasing him we were told to take any knives in the home away because of the effects the medicine can have on him and that it would take some months for him to get use to the medicine. I watched my nephew do things and say things, cry out loud and see things that were not there. I knew he would not do any of those thing in his right mind all the while he took this medicine. Finally I said that is enough. After 3 days even though the doctors said you have to give the medicine time to do what it is designed to do, I said screw that!! For 3 months it was cold turkey after 1.5 months and getting of the meds he started coming back around to being himself but a better person. He said the medicine was the worst thing in his life all it did was take the life out of him make him gain weight and sleep. Today he is a better person. I am sharing this story because when the mother said she was hallucinating THAT I CAN BELIEVE BECAUSE I HAVE WITNESS IT FIRST HAND. There is no good to this story, what I can say is IF the husband knew the wife was on MEDS and was placed on a 72 hour hold that in itself should have told him not to just protect himself from getting stabbed but also his children. I am sure when they released the wife from psychiatric care they went over safety precaution in and around the home and discussed the effects of the medicine she was on and told him what to expect. He had to sign papers for her release or they would not release her. I am sure of this. Its sad that the children are dead and the mother is now locked up. Yes the father loss a family but I have seen this first hand. I am not just posting mental illness is real, and I am wondering if t father did anything besides sleeping in his car to protect himself. Again, when I read butchered the kids and she was on 72 hour hold. My first thought was you are asked to remove ALL weapons and knives from the home. This told me that not even the doctor knew what the meds were capable of doing to the mind. THERE ARE NO WINNERS, MENTAL ILLNESS IS REAL we only judge the results because they are not normal in this case when in fact the mother really needed help!

I could list some UK measure but won't deliberately.

My point is not what Americans should or should not have done; it's the softly softly approach taken by most posting here. Placing most of the blame on the mother, with veiled attempts to exonerate the American system that should have done better.

In the US, we have the 4th Amendment, which, guarantees protections against unreasonable search or seizure.

I think it varies by state, but I’m guessing the Police/Arizona Child Protective Services had to prove imminent harm before they could remove the children. I’m guessing they would have needed a warrant.

It may not make sense at face value but these protections are put in place for a reason. Removal of a child from their parents does a lot of harm to a child’s development and dubious reports of abuse by a scorned parent are more common than it should be.

First, we don’t even know if she WAS medicated. And second, that’s not how psychiatric drugs work. They don’t make you see hear and feel things. Unless you’re licking LCD stamps. Hallucinogenic drugs aren’t prescribed to anyone, least of all people in mental crises. It’s hard-brained ideas like this that create the stigma around getting proper medication. The drugs don’t ‘change who you are’ (unless of course you consider mental instability to be ‘who you are’). They don’t ‘make you happy’. They stabilize your messed up brain chemistry enough for your brain to correct itself.

The reason states are going back to ever more brutal methods of execution is because international drug companies won’t sell drugs to states they know will use them to execute people. Think about that for a minute. When Big Pharma gets to claim the moral high ground, you know you’re deep in the muck.

Zoloff and other drugs the psychiatrist prescribe for you the side effect are worse. The labels tell you the drugs can cause erratic and psychotic behaviors where people do and will hallucinate.

This scaremongering again...that’s not how psychiatric drugs work. Drugs like Zoloft can have negative side effects if the are incorrectly prescribed. The same can be said for literally ANY medicine. That’s why it’s important to *take the damn meds and report any side effects *to your psychiatrist. That way you can get the RIGHT meds. Stopping your meds without consulting your doctor is the WORST thing you can do, because that’s something that CAN AND DOES lead to more problems.
