More body parts found in Hiratsuka

Police said Thursday that more body parts have been found in Kanagawa Prefecture’s Hiratsuka City.

Both legs of an unidentified male and other body parts were found in two separate places within city limits on Wednesday, and are believed to belong to the same body whose severed head was discovered in a bag on Sunday, TBS reported.

Coroners performed an autopsy on the chest and torso, confirming the man died one to two months ago, TBS quoted police as saying.

The autopsy did not reveal a cause of death. Police say DNA tests are being conducted.

The body parts were all wrapped in blue plastic and concealed within paper bags. The rib cage, thighs, and the legs from the knee down were found in separate bags, and investigators discovered a bloody newspaper nearby.

Police also said that a man separately found pieces of what appear to be human flesh and a kitchen knife stuck into the ground in a city park, TBS reported.

What a safe country. Any Hostels nearby? Sickening, what's worse is whoever did this is still lurking out there. Very scary stuff.

Blue plastic is a popular material for picknickers to lay on the ground during the cherry blossom season and also for shelter by the homeless, so I guess by the evidence found in the park that this was the scene of the possible murder. It is unlikely that the killing took place during daylight hours, too many potential witnesses,so I am guesing its homeless killing of a homeless guy, if the victim was not on the missing persons list..Anyway homeless or not what an awfull way for the victims life to end

Hey, what's wrong with a few body parts here and there.

And people claim that Japan is a safe country. They surely don't read the crime sections of any Japanese news outlets, that's for sure. Every other day someone hacks another person up into pieces, or a son/daughter kills a parent, wife or husband kills their spouse. Japan is not a safe country at all. So many people are mentally oppressed until one day it all spills out and they kill someone. It happens every single day, and their crimes are much more twisted than the U.S.'s typical assaults, robberies, and murders.

Japan statistically speaking is still one of the most safe countries on the planet. I believe it is naive of anyone to think that just because this is Japan that crime does not occur.

Food for thought, cases like this shock and scare everyone in the country, as well they should, but in comparison to other places in the world where a case like this MIGHT make a blip on the local evening news, this is national news.

People need to get their heads out of the sand about Japan and it's image of being crime free, and take proper precautions and use common sense when going out and about here.

My daughter always reassured me that Japan is relatively free of crime , but since becoming a regular visitor to Japan Today News, I am becoming increasingly aware that this is not so.Murders and child abuse appear to be rampant and the political situation leaves to many questions regarding their competancy. This latest news regarding body parts of an almost certain murder victim leaves me fearfull for the welfare and safety of my daughter and grandchildren. This alligned with the uncertainty of the safety of nuclear energy in a country besieged with earthquakes leaves me only with the hope that they will return safely at a time they will consider appropriate

Miss 'neill. Your daughter is correct is is safe compared to most places, well as for crime it is.

Reminds me of a scene from Donnie Brasco. kitchenknife. yuck. You really have to be a stonecold nutter to be able to cut ones finger off, let alone cut up a whole body. thats just sick. Hope they catch him.

Ms O'Neill: No where in the World is perfectly safe place.. It's about how you take care of yourself and your family. I've lived in Tokyo for more than 10 years. All I care about is only the positive things in life and that allows me to send the fear of crimes away....Tokyo is wonderful if you have a stable income and willing to compromise to all the Japanese rules.

it happens everywhere in this world. there is no difference since crimes occurs anytime.people should always be aware of things around us.these chop chop bodies are gruesome acts of killing humans but what happens to them have their reasons either it is vindictive or a drug craze individual who makes killing for fun ..any eventualities like this, we shall be able to protect ourselves by keeping us aware and vigilant for our family.a watchful eye for our children and loveones,to be reminded what lies ahead when they go out from their homes.thats the only way, we can assured of security of ourselves.

Murders and child abuse appear to be rampant

This is the farthest thing from the truth. It is not rampant, it is just reported heavily here and in a country with a population of over 125 million people it is pure lunacy to assume that crime does not exist.

Yes murder and child abuse occur, just like anywhere else in any other country. BUT Japan is still relatively a low-crime country for one of it's size population wise that is.

You have no need to be fearful for your daughter or grandchildren, there is no need to over aggrandize the situation, if they use common sense they will be fine. I dont know where you live, but the same crimes can and do occur with greater frequency in other countries and people usually aren't aware of it because the local press won't report crimes or murders, or child abuse, from other sections of the country like they do here.

Use common sense when reading articles like this.

What's up with all the body parts being left all over the place lately? The culprit probably wants to be caught.

I feel sorry for the people that discover these types of things. I hope they are able to get past that shock and live without thinking about the horrible sight the saw.

Christina O'Neill:

" My daughter always reassured me that Japan is relatively free of crime , but since becoming a regular visitor to Japan Today News, I am becoming increasingly aware that this is not so. "

That is call "confirmation bias". Of course, in a country of 110 millon there is some crime. And of course, on a news site, the reports are about crimes that happen, and not about the millions and millions of people who go peacefully through another day. Japan is safer than any country I can think of (short of the Vatican state, perhaps).

WOW everyone on here has negatives. So let me get mine. No where is perfectly safe. The rate doesnt matter. Statistics are just numbers. They dont take into account special circumstances, for example: how an incident is categorized and that goes for every country. Just be careful and be aware where ever you go. Dont be naive to think that you dont have to be worried about safety, even in the safest countries in the world you can become a member of that low statistic.

Anyway, this could just be someone died, and the family member panicked and didnt know what to do.

When we make statements, it is always in relation to something else. Maybe it won't create opposition if we would just say Japan is still SAFER inspite of these things. Around 8 yrs ago in my country, 3 homeless young men were beheaded by no other than a corrupt policeman/men. And still so many horrendous crimes over there. That's why I say, Japan is still a safe country. Worst crime news gets to be a feeder in every discussion show simply because they are out of ordinary. Peaceful living still prevails. I love it here and I'll love it more had I understood the language well.

I always think, stories like this are on the news because the events are not normal, rare, surprising, etc... Lets say, if we don't read stuff like this on the news, is that mean there are no crimes happening or is it because it has become normal. That's just looking from a different prospective >< sorry if I confused anyone.

Anyways let's just hope there is some answers to this crime.

You're right, no where IS perfectly safe but I don't know of any other country that bleats on like sheep about how "safe" their country is when in fact, it isn't. A look at rape, DV, sexual harassment, stalking... would give an very good indication that Japan isn't all that safe. Thing is, these are crimes usually against women so... they either don't count, don't get reported and are largely ignored by the police and the media.

Japan is not as safe as many would like. Will you get robbed or mugged like you would in other countries? Not likely. Would a high school girl in the US have to worry about perverts on the train taking up-skirt shots or copping a feel? Not anywhere near the rate the girls in Japan have to worry about.

All readers back on topic please.

I do believe that people over react with their use of the vernacular when commenting on topics like this. Using adjectives that sensationalize or over dramatize what happened does not help the readers that are not familiar with life or living in Japan.

Japan safe? Agree with Yubaru to some extent; it is not crime free, but it is less safe than many western countries for certain demographics. If you are an old foreign couple or foreign male, you will see little trouble. There are a lot of problems for women and girls. I have heard many horror stories about chikan, perverts touching women, girls and kids, people accosting lone females walking/cycling home and sexual harassment at work. Many women just do not talk about it. But I guess in many countries women and girls just do not walk home late at night alone, and therefore avoid some of the situations. If you think this is sensationalist, try asking any JP female you know well enough and you will most likely hear their story. Japan is not safer than any other country nor is it more dangerous, but crime manifests itself in different ways.

@chickensando, I agree, I was referring in particular to this crime, YES females here face a whole different set of problems when it comes to crime.

Mrs O'Neal, I doubt the victim was a homeless man. His hair was cut short (cropped was the word, as I remember). Homeless people's hair is long and unkept. Probably work of yakuza or some crazy guy- my bet is for the second.

It is rare to hear about murders in Japan. The one's that do happen seem to have a high rate of being mutilated. This is still a much safer than my home country were you would here of murders a couple times a week in the D.C. metro alone.

Gruesome ! to say the least... (Somebody's been watching to much Dexter...)

It is rare to hear about murders in Japan. No it isn't. Pretty much everyday Japantoday reports one.

I love Japan. It's one of the few countries I have visited where children can still safely walk to school. I think (certainly where I've been) the adults who live along the route oversee these youngsters and yet they march on alone and without adult supervision. This was in Tokyo. Didn't see elementary aged children enroute to school outside of the city...but have certainly ridden trains packed with teens enroute to schools in another town (Kitakami to Morioka).

The murder described sounds a bit personal. It's always possible, but unlikely, it was a random killing. Although crime happens anywhere, so it always behooves one to be aware of your surroundings, day or night.

ewww scarry halloween

The autopsy did not reveal a cause of death.

Lol maybe the fact that he was cut to pieces was part of the cause I suspect yakuza being responsible or maybe Kira.
