The bodies of a 31-year-old woman and her two children, a 9-year-old boy and 4-month-old daughter, were found in a car pulled from the sea at a port in Okayama City on Sunday, in what police believe may have been a murder-suicide.
Police said that at around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, a 36-year-old man called them to report that his wife and two children were missing and that his car had gone. A search was launched in the vicinity and on Sunday, at 10:30 a.m., the car was found submerged in water about 15 meters deep at Shin Okayama Port in Naka Ward, Fuji TV reported.
Police said the three bodies found inside were the missing woman and her children. They added there were no visible injuries inflicted on the bodies, nor were there any traces of brake marks near the edge of the pier, indicating the possibility that woman deliberately drove the car into the sea.

PPD is not a convenient excuse. The extent of it can go rather deep. This hasn’t only happened in Japan. There have been many women in history that have suffered from PPD and ended up killing themselves or even their babies. In many cases of PPD, if a family member did not intervene the baby was in danger of possibly dying.
I suffered from PPD and there were many times I almost killed myself. There was even a moment where my husband stopped me from walking off the balcony with our baby that was 3 months at the time. If I didn’t receive medical help, I most likely wouldn’t be here today. PPD is serious and it shouldn’t be taken lightly or seen as a convenient excuse. I love my children and even others suffering from different type of depression loves people but it’s a serious and real thing. The extent of someone’s suffering is not always the same. Long term depression that isn’t caught soon enough typically ends in suicide.

Why take the kids with you they are not extensions( like NPD people see them,,,) RIP

Japan needs to dedicate more resources toward mental health. The existence of suicidal parents who take their children with them only underlines the need for this.
There is a definite cultural aspect to shinju-type suicide pacts, and it should be confronted.

Another family murder-suicide. It just never stops! I noticed one comment mentioning PPD. Yeah, it's an easy diagnosis or excuse, but I'm quite sure the mental and emotional state of people who kill themselves and their children goes much deeper than just post birth depression. What about parents that kill themselves and their elementary or junior high aged kids? Can you call that PPD? I'm sorry but, PPD is just a convenient excuse for much deeper mental and emotional illnesses.

It could still be murder. Lack of break marks does not imply it is definitely suicide.

As the father of a 3 year old and and a 7 month old, this just tears my heart out

She had a 4 month old. There is a possibility she could have been suffering from postpartum depression.

Um...how did they even find the car?..

If the mother were mentally ill, why was it allowed to get to this point? This is not easy to understand at all given she murdered her children.
sensei258
in that case the murderer killed her two kids with charcoal fumes

The mom was mentally ill and murdered her two kids, not hard to understand, just happened a few days ago too

No brake marks pretty much tells the cause right there.

Tragic.
To do something like this, the mother must have felt like she had no other option. I wonder why she may have felt that way. And, no, I am not attempting to excuse her actions; I am trying to understand them.
