Mother arrested after stuffing bread in 2-year-old son's mouth

Step 1. Remove obstruction. Step 2. Clear the air-way. Step 3. Perform CPR.

It's true that a lot of toddlers are often covered in self-inflicted bruises and wounds that somebody might think are signs of abuse. Ours were/are.

But even worse, I am covered with bruises, scratches and have knee, hip and back problems from these kids. Maybe the kids should be arrested.

I'm suprised that the headline is so accusatory. No mention of "allegedly" or "being suspected of". Until the facts become clear, surely we should not judge.

Theoretically no, but realistically it is sometimes just not possible to sit and watch every mouthful - especially when you also have a young baby as well.

Where does it say that the Ambulance staff didn't remove the bread, etc.

Depending on how long he was unconscious before they arrived the damage might have already existed. Some bread might have been too deep for he crew to see or retrieve safely.

Just speculating here as article is vague on specifics. As is common on JT when an article is compiled from various news sources.

As others have stated, you would think the ambulance crew would remove the bread and administer CPR, or oxygen if the child was still breathing. I think they are forbidden to do anything that they are not specifically authorised to do. Bread in mouth is probably not on the list...

I would have thought that clearing the airway would be the first thing that any ambulance crew would do.

As others have said, 2 year old kids can end up looking like leopards sometimes and will stick anything in their mouth. If the mother is innocent, then I hope she sues the crew for negligence if her child is permanently harmed.

Not sure how many of you guys have kids but I have a 2 year old son. Miamum has hit the nail right on the head here. He always tries to stuff food in his mouth. Kids do. That is why you have to watch them. This lady could be telling the truth or could not be. For so many of you to lay into her so quickly is pretty ignorant in my eyes.

Hmmmm - I am going to reserve judgement here until more facts come out, the only reason being I have had two 2-year old boys (OK, one is nearly two) and they are both always covered in bruises because that is the nature of 2 year old little boys.

I have also had one incident where the older one (when he was about 2 going on 3) stuffed as much bread in his mouth as he could in the 20 seconds I turned my back to empty the dishwasher before I caught him. I pulled it all out again and he was fine but I CAN see how this could happen if she popped out of the room, say to go to the toilet.

My paediatrician once told me they can tell the difference between bruises caused by normal toddler activities, and ones caused by abuse, so I am assuming this was the case here. It is also very strange that no-one actually thought to remove the bread - surely instinctively that is the first thing you would do?

Assuming the bruises were consistent with abuse and maybe other aspects of her behaviour were strange then yes, she should be in big trouble. Anotehr factor to bear in mind is she had not long given birth - that mentally can do strange things to a few people.

Im not saying she is innocent, and if she is guilty then she should absolutely be punished for what she has done - just that there is not a lot of information here and I can see how it could also be an accident/coincidence. As much as I want to see evil parents banged away, I equally dont want to see kids removed from innocent parents.

Yeah, and too many that shouldn't have them. Yeah, infanticide is as old as humanity, but it seems to have a special kind of callous selfishness to it in Japan. A few recent ones, stuffing kid into garbage bag, stuffing kid into rubbish bin, locked on balcony in winter, too many cases of punching infants, and the long list of dumped babies showing up in parks, garbage bins, bicycle baskets and toilets. - To drive a car you have to study, take a test and be certified, but to have kids all you need is a bottle of sake.

This is SICK! What a stupid, bad mother. She could just as well spanked the boy, but stuffing bread in the child's mouth?? WTF was she thinking??

I'm with gaijininfo. I was wondering about the bread still stuffed in his mouth. The paramedics, the nurses, the doctors, everyone observed there were large pieces of bread in the child's mouth but it seems no one bothered to take it out.

Why did she leave the room? Where was the husband?

Let me get this straight. The mom stuffed bread into his mouth. He passes out. She calls an ambulance. When he arrives at the doctors, he STILL has bread stuffed in his mouth? Nobody thought to try and take it out?

Is taking bread out of a choking kids mouth too much to ask for paramedics in an G8 country? WTF?

It was because she was so young...oh, and the broken home with step-dad. Oh wait! That was the last time!

The key phrase here is '... 4-month-old daughter.' This may well be a case of post natal depression or possibly just stress from having to look after two young children. Not all women are text book mothers. Strange that she would deny the charges, though. She should admit what she has done and ask for help.

Statistically the mother of a child is twice as likely to murder them as the father. Although in this case if the father failed to notice any sign of abuse - assuming he was not a party to it - he has also failed in his responsibilities as a parent.

Hard to believe that a mother can do this to her child. There are many women that are tryin to have babies, that would make wonderful mothers, and they cant and a woman who lacks all mothering skills has a child...smh
