Police in Saiki, Oita Prefecture, said Monday they have arrested a 24-year-old unemployed woman on suspicion of child abuse after she pressed the lit end of a cigarette against the hand of her 5-year-old son.
According to police, the incident occurred at the woman’s home in mid-January, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said that she pressed the cigarette against the right hand of her oldest boy, causing burns that will take about two or three weeks to heal, according to doctors.
The boy’s burns were reported to a child welfare center which contacted police on Jan 21 about a case of possible child abuse.
The woman, whose name has not been released, lives with her two sons, both of whom have been taken into protective custody.

Child Welfare workers: Please, please, please do not bungle this. I really don't want to be reading about anymore dead children because of your incompetence.

Christ, that sort of behavior towards a human, especially a child, is disgusting. I pray for the mental well-being of these kids. Sounds extremely unhealthy.

Unemployed, solo mother, 3 children. You don’t need to read the tea leaves...

Horrible.
But no need to demonise unemployed or single people all the same.

The Japanese version of trailer trash. The bottom dwellers of society. Poor kid. Hope he finds a healthy mentor somewhere one day. Gambare young fella!

Ricky, he's in Kyushu. Not too far away from you? Maybe someday YOU could be his mentor! Through Karate. You work really well with the kids, and they always seem postive and happy. This little guy could use a mentor like you...maybe there is a way..

I'm assuming that the doctor reported this to the child welfare services and I'm happy to see that medical, along with educational services haven't turned a blind eye to this physical and mental cruelty. I also pray for this innocent child and anyone else like him in similar situations that they will get the medical attention they really deserve. All the best young ones.
Almost forgot. BTW, WHAT CHIP SAID!
