Mother arrested over death of newborn child

A 29-year-old woman in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, has been arrested on suspicion of parental neglect resulting in the death of her newborn son last month.

According to police, Nana Kaneko, a restaurant employee, gave birth in her house sometime on Dec 27, Fuji TV reported.

Kaneko was admitted to the hospital on the same day claiming she was ill. Noticing that she had just delivered a child, the hospital waited until she had recovered and notified police on Jan 6. Police found the infant lying dead on a bed in Kaneko's house on Jan 7.

Police have not said whether Kaneko, who was arrested Thursday, admits to letting her baby die or not.

Last month a 31 year old single mother was arrested for leaving her baby home alone at night while she went to work and the baby died,  now this 29 year old woman is arrested for leaving her baby home alone which also died she too is probably a single mother. W.T.F. ladies. Safe Sex - Responsible Sex will help avoid these type of issues.... R.I.P Little Ones. Sorry your mothers turned out to be worthless idiots.

Its pretty clear that this is primarily the mother’s fault. All she had to do was tell someone her baby needed to helped and this could have been avoided but she stayed silent the whole time (the article makes it clear that she could speak).

Actually, it isn't clear at all! No one on this post knows the true condition that she was in when she arrived.

The staff at the hospital are suppose to be trained professionals. They should be better trained to handle these situations. The average person are not expected to think clearly and to deal with emergency situations.

It is obvious the staff knew something, but they chose to wait a week to follow up after realizing their mistake.

Why did they wait for her to recover before contacting the police? On the abundance of caution for the life of the baby, they should've let the police know right away. Better to err on the side of caution when a life is at stake

The sooner the police know, the sooner the police could investigate and find out who she is, where she lives, etc. ASAP

That's what police do - investigate. Let them do their job

Why didn't they ask about the baby as soon as they found out she gave birth VERY recently? Come on...

This seems more like the hospitals fault than young woman, and the hospital is now trying to cover their behinds.

The hospital staff obviously should have acted sooner, but the mother is the one mainly at fault here. I mean if you are sick after giving birth you don’t just abandon the baby to die so you can get taken care of yourself, if she could travel to the hospital then she could have either taken the child with her or at least told someone about it.

I agree. The waiting is strange.

People at the hospital should have contacted relevant people to look for the new born taking in account that lot of explanation was possible : baby being safely at home with family member, full fledged case of pregnancy denial, kidnapping, ...

But Smartacus, according to the article it says she went to the hospital claiming to be seriously ill. If she could get there and do the intake, then the hospital staff should have tried to find out where the baby was.

The only explanation I can think of is that she turned up at the hospital seriously ill, without any ID on her. Perhaps she was too sick to speak. Doctors could see she had just given birth but if she couldn't speak, then she couldn't tell them her name and where the baby was. Whatever was ailing her, it took until Jan 6 for her to recover. That's 10 days, so it must have been a serious illness. Then they were able to find out details and contact the police.

The hospital was negligent. A woman who was ill came in for treatment. You noticed she had just given birth. This means that they should have contacted the police right away so that they could at least ID the woman and check on the baby. A woman that just gave birth and enters the hospital alone most likely has no one looking after the child.

If the story arc (plot) and dates are correct, the hospital worker should be also arrester over suspicion of unfulfillment of public duties.

Suspecting that, they just delay to investigate the process and hide to not to bother their "important" shogatsu holiday.

If they noticed that she just recently gave birth, and her health issues were related then they should have immediately asked her about the child. Instead the waited a week.

Was the woman in the hospital the whole week? If so, then it is definitely the hospitals fault.

This is why emergency health situations are so dangerous in Japan because of the incompetence and lack of critical thinking.

There must be a mistake in this reporting! If not, the staff at the hospital are also guilty of murder if they waited seven days to report the information to the police.

The hospital waited 9 days before making a report on a woman who they knew had just given birth, but did not have the baby with her? WTF!
