A 31-year-old woman in Higashi-Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, has been arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing her two sons, aged 3 and 5, with a kitchen knife.

According to police, Ryoko Iwanaga called 110 at around 5:45 p.m. Monday and said she had killed her children. When police arrived at her residence, they found her sons, Hayato, 5, and Sota, 3, collapsed, with multiple stab wounds in their back, Fuji TV reported.

They were taken to hospital where they were confirmed dead.

Police said Iwanaga has admitted to the charge and quoted her as saying she felt sad about the children's future and didn't want them to grow up and be as miserable as she is.

Iwanaga lived with her husband, who was out at the time, and her two sons.

RIP little men. I know it wasn't your fault. You're the innocent ones.

Words fail me some days. her act is totally inexcusable, and they were totally defenceless.

I see these family killings being reported here so often and I am still surprised every time I see one. There is no doubt that these people need help. Something is radically wrong.

or maybe they would have grown up to be happy and affluent you psycho

Imagine the poor husband coming home from work to that.

She didn't want her kids lives to be as sad as hers when they grew up.

Here's news for you "mom". Their lives didn't turn out sad - they turned out tragic. They didn't get to live theirs.

She'll go deeper into insanity and kill herself.

RIP little men, so sad.

Obscenely selfish mother who, having notched up a double killing, has ticked the box that qualifies her for that sort drop with a long rope around her neck.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

I hope she gets the rope... There is no justification for such actions, and she does not deserve to breath the same air as the rest...

What a piece of GARBAGE this women turned out to be. Worried about her sons future so she kills them. How does killing them make there future any better ??? If they would have lived at least they would of had a future BUT she took everything away from them. I truly hope she is put to death.

it does take multiple murders to get the death penalty in Japan, but if they are within one's own family the chances are very slim

This sort of action is borne out of depression and mindset. The social services, health care, even the media should have done more ( if there are any) to address all this family-member killings with an information drive or support program.

B cluster madness, she views them as extensions of herself like a possessions not as individual human beings. ive said it before that the cold japanese child rearing style is a breeding ground for b clusters. RIP little men, may you be in a peaceful place.

Extremely selfish. But then again, mental and psychological breakdowns are almost unavoidable in a society where people are ashamed to ask help from their own family members and friends. Also, I have witness several cases where somebody could have done something to help but almost always choose to pretend that the problem does not exist.

So killing them would make your life less miserable? How about putting them up for adoption? That would've increased their chances of a better future. Such a selfish, thoughtless act.

This was not Depression, Mental Disease, Psychological Breakdown or a Nervous Breakdown. This was just pure EVIL. To take the life of two young little children. Hopefully she killed in prison for what she has done.

Oh my god! People what have you done

@HARRYO

Yes it was evil but just like Japan you ignoring mental health. Not excusing her actions in the slightest but a lot of these people are "made" for lack of another word. You enjoy your little bubble mate.

This is simply happening too often lately...if they do not want to have a family and have kids then simply don't...

I feel that some people are not fit for the job, however they force themselves into the role and in the end they live miserably and end up doing things such as these...

Society here pushes people into roles defined by gender, age, etc.

e.g. If I am 27 I must get married and have kids etc etc, even if I don't want to for example, otherwise I will become a social reject.

As this is becoming a usual pattern in Japan lately, we must ask ourselves what is the common denominator that pushes all these people to commit such crimes lately...

I agree with you @Kobe White Bar Owner, simply labeling them as evil will not prevent it from happening over and over again...the roots must be addressed...

Just a lack of imagination and will power. Go camping!

Forgive my ignorance but will someone - anyone...please, PLEASE explain to me how the word "suspicion" fits in this equation after getting an official confession and statement of killing. How insipid from the authorities to release such an inept statement to the press. And may the souls of these two young boys rest in heaven peacefully.

False confessions are a real thing.

Seems more like she was punishing her husband for something. If it was depression and escaping the world she would have taken her own life too.

Very sad, she needs to go to prison. I wonder what may have been happening in their marriage to drive her to such a extreme violent act.
