Mother of fatally abused 10-year-old daughter admits withholding food from her

Very difficult to control my rage reading these kind of articles. For these kind of cases I sincerely wish we'd have an 'eye for an eye' punishment. These people don't deserve a cell with a bed and 3 meals.

This is btw the second disgusting story of grave child abuse after that poor girl that was given candle wax and onion peels for dinner last year that made the news. Just shocking to think how many other are still out there that we don't know about.....

Can you imagine the utter sadness and helplessness and hopelessness and fear of a 10-year-old girl being tortured by her own parents and having no one else to turn to?

Mia was taken into protective custody for seven weeks at a child welfare center but after this period, no visits were paid by officials of either the center or school to her home to check on her safety.

Yep! There it is! Both he and his wife were mentally ill, delusional monsters who should not have kids. You think of all the hundreds of thousands of people around the world who are unable to have kids and then think of monsters like this. Perhaps the declining birth rate in Japan is for the best after all.

Part of me wants to believe that the mother was brainwashed by the psycho, controlling father. However, my anger of what happened makes me point the finger at the parents, city hall and those who did nothing to prevent this.

Well, I expect he will get disciplined, in his turn.

What a pathetic excuse for a father and mother. Your most important job as a parent is to protect your children from harm. Absolutely disgusting! And isn't there another child these monsters had?

I'd like to know why the police are hiding her face in the photo. It's not as if by identifying her the child is at risk. The child is dead. Show the mother's face.

Death penalty for both parents

Stunned by the comments here in JT. Why such a rush to judge the mother? The odds are extremely high that she was a victim of DV herself. [Of course, none of us know for sure, but the article sure seems to state as such.]

In a family ruled by an abusive husband, normal thinking and reasoning can go out the window. Fear and guilt replace reason and logic.

Ask yourself, if this woman had tried to defy her husband, given what we know about him, what do you think would have happened? If she tried something while the husband was not around, and then he found out? Do you think that he would have calmly accepted the situation?

Not excusing the death of an innocent child, not at all, but we cannot judge her actions in a vacuum.

The waterboarding, hitting, and excessive forced fasting are indeed abuse, but are there any posters on here over 40 years old? I'm younger, but even I remember going to bed without supper if I did something wrong in my parents eyes. Mine had the good sense to gauge what was excessive though (1 supper was the max at a time for me - probably 5x throughout my childhood). Some parents actually force their child to have their head shaved as punishment. I'd rather lose a meal than my hair as the meal lost is one night and known only to my family, the shaved head last for months and is a shame unto me in front of everyone in school and community.

Luckily, my parents didn't do the latter.

It is these cases, where the worst of the human being comes out, there is only one punishment that would do justice, but perhaps it is better that he rot in jail the rest of his life and I hope that his conscience, someday, will recognize the atrocity he has committed and suffer every day for it.

This is the behavior of an animal, not a human being. Filled with anger and grief after reading this.

I hope they actually give these people REAL sentences for a change. They should both get life, but this being Japan, I have a feeling we'll see the usual three years or so for dad, and less, if anything, for mom. I truly hope I am wrong, though. A message needs to be sent to these kind of vermin. Give them life, and promise more of the same for others who do this. I'm tired of reading about this kind of thing daily.

They need to arrest the officials for not doing their job!

When I first read this story I cried. I also suffered with a father that was a bully, not physically but emotionally which psychiatrists claim is almost as bad. It doesn't kill you physically, but spiritually. Thank God I had a loving mother that always took up for me and protected me from him. If it hadn't been for her, I'm sure I would have been in worse psychological shape than I am. Yes, he bulled her as well as my brother, but she protected me. This poor girl had no one to protect her and it still makes me want to cry for her. No child anywhere in the world should have to suffer like her.

I just wonder how many other children are out there being abused and no one knows. it's a really awful thought!

While I am going to assume here that this was not the intent, it sounds like an excuse.

My brothers and I were raised by a father who used to beat us with whatever was close by and as a last resort his fists, for anything he felt was out of line. 2X4's were his "favorite" and occasionally one's with a nail still stuck in it, and ending up in my butt or my brothers. My sisters, never raised a hand to them, no matter what they did. We screamed and cried, and got nailed twice as hard for it. Why did he do it? "Because that is how HE was raised!" (I used to hate my father for saying that!)

None of us continued the circle of violence with our own children. It's not an excuse!

I'm still waiting what disciplinary actions, if there is any at all, will be done to the teachers who obviously betrayed the girl, the board of eucation who failed to act according, and to the government unit who tremendously failed to perform their mandate.

one of my foreign friends Japanese wife with yakuza affiliations was found guilty of abusing their children, among other actions she locked them out of their home during cold winter, the kids were put in a shelter but later released to the mother - seems authorities don't deserve their job titles.

fire everyone at child services that was involved in this case. the failure of child services led to this young childs death.
