That would save a lot of tax payers' money.

What is the deal with this kid? So his parents work and live here, and he is here on their visa or what? Does he go to school, etc. I would like to know a bit more about his situation. Did he fall through the cracks. Parents here working but can't speak the language, so he is just floating along?

How strange that these two would think that stabbing someone with a knife would not kill that person. Just snatching the persons bag and making a run for it might be a better way with less penalty if they would be caught. Dangerous kids today.

Your apologises will not bring back a good young lady who put evey effort in having a bright future (working and studying), while you were not taking care of your crazy lunetic son!!!! I am a romanian musician who dream to make music in a beautiful country like Japan.I really hate the idea that I will be seen as a social danger because of my fellow con-nationals.Everywhere we can see idiots,psychopaths or stupid two walking without a braid.There is no place for generalization...romanian are good and hard working people just like everyone.As a humble artist I apologize in the name of my country not for that psycho and I hope that japanese people will understand that romanians are not just bad people.I really feel bad and cry and pray along with parents of that poor girl and I hope for the best for them.I really know that there will be an empty spot and scars will be there for the rest of their lifes...but still....my humbly and sincere sympathy,

That's a very odd comment Anthony !!!! Not quite sure how you could "feel for the 18 year old friend". If what the Romanian lad is saying is true, this lowlife wasn't at all nervous when he conspired to rob a helpless female in the middle of the night and plunge a knife into her back as well as slashing her on the wrist. He Was probably quite bravado about it at the time. I truly hope he is nervous right now, he fully deserves to be.

I'm at a total loss!!! The parents of the girl must be beside themselves with grief at such an unexpected loss and absolute waste of their daughters life. The total disregard displayed by the two youths for this poor girls life is incomprehensible to me. Surely no normally wired person could do such a thing to some poor innocent girl walking home. I can say that if I had seen it happen and managed to get hold of one of them I would be the one behind bars and happily so. Tragic beyond the Nth degree and inexcusable even if he is still a minor. My sincerest condolences to the family, but know that nothing will ever fill that void in their hearts.

I have a daughter near that age, I couldn't possibly fathom losing her to such a senseless act of violence. My heart goes out to her parents who must be devastated by this after seeing her off to pursue her own life. Im Sure if these boys were seen hanging out in the area the multitude of cameras I'm the area will help catch the other individual that took part in this. The question is what motivated them to stab this girl??? Just waiving around the knife would have been sufficient one would think. There's more to this story than the need for money.

Konsta, it's in the article. You should read it, it's really not that long.

A lot of apologizing just to receive a lighter sentence. Seems minors are apt to murder since they know that they'll be out soon. Knowing that most criminals are repeat offenders, a harsher punishment should be applied. Killing a young lady who had a dream and working hard to fulfill that dream is a very abominable act. I hope they get the same too.

They should stop selling knives after a certain time though especially to teenagers. Nobody found it suspicious that 2 teenagers were buying a long knife after hours?

Unfortunately, you ARE over generalizing and I must disagree with you. Romanians are wonderful people and Romania is a beautiful and welcoming country. I am not sure why you claim such a terrible thing because this country is not considered the PIT of Europe, it is culturally rich and blessed with beautiful places and warm people. Every nation has "bad people" but it's not OK to generalize. This incident is very tragic and this boy deserves to suffer the consequences of what he has done! However, this has nothing to do with a nation/ country / nationality. Stereotypes like this do not help making this world a better place.

The Romanian boy was detained at about 5 a.m. Thursday and formally charged with robbery and murder on Friday after a DNA test showed that blood found on one of his gloves matched Yamada’s. -

Ok while the guy arrested evidently has admitted to the crime, I am amazed, REALLY amazed that the DNA test came back so quickly. The cops had to take a sample from the victim and the perp and the results came back in less than 24 hours? Wow!

i am at a loss for words the poor girl ...my prayers to her spirit and her family. And I hope they throw that monster in prison for life. and his co criminal.

Knife related murders are becoming an increasing trend in Japan. I hope justice is served in this case.

Mum may be apologising and thats better than nothing, but I am more interested in learning how she raised such a scumbag.

Apparently you have some information that she hadn't done this?

Seriously did they both stab her? , the article makes you believe that they bought only one knife, and then it says they both stabbed her, so one of them stabbed her and then passed the knife to the other to stab her, If that really is the case, its almost like the robbery was secondary and that the actual murder was what they really wanted to do. And they can say she was random all they like, they chose a young woman on her own, someone they believed to be weaker than themselves, that is not random.

Well as the saying goes you gotta spend money to make money....

a close family and a strong community is a real schooling for the kids which certainly lacking in japan, in a strong community the people communicate often and the children learn what is right and what is wrong and where is the red line for certain matters. every day you see bullying for fun, suicide on minor issues and unfortunate incidents like this one. no communication or less communication creates distance among human beings, which creates doubts and fears

I am romanian and I feel me ashamed to say I am romanian with such "co-nationals".

What I don't understand is what is doing a 17 years old boy in Japan (even if mother is living there) at 2 am in the morning alone. I know in Japan police can send children back to the mother, at home. What was police doing in this case to protect the innocent people walking around the station ?
