19, too young to die but not too old to be foolish. What is the penalty for speeding and driving without a license? Pretty sure it isn't death.

Yep, the foolishness of youth. A very stupid way to lose one's life for something that really wouldn't have been that bad to just accept the penalty for not having a license. Some lessons you just don't get to learn from because it's too late and there were not more chances.

There isn't enough info to say why the truck changed lanes. It could have been exiting or getting over to let the cop by for all we know. This accident could have been worse with innocent people losing their lives. The truck sort of saved the some lives.

So sad I must confess. Police should just try and get a better means of tracking those that violates driving rules, chasing after them may result to something like this. My condolence greetings to the parent of the young boy.

Why do the police keep chasing for something so petty ? They wouldn't chase .or even pay a visit, to monsters that torture toddlers to death, but over-speeding is the supreme offense ! They put everybody's life in danger during a chase, not only the over-speeder but other cars, trucks, walkers in the street. And they have other ways to get people for speed tickets later.

I was not aware that wreck less driving was a petty crime.

Would it have been better if the police simply ignore it and this person would have ran into someone in a crosswalk or people on the side of the road?

No, not all young, just the ones who havent wisened enough to the risks. The first time you do something stupid and get away with it, you create a false sense of safety in your mind. This then multiplies over reprated successes until 'at-risk' behaviour seems normal behaviour for them. For the other not-so-fortunate ones, it happens only once.

Because the logic centers of their brains are not fully developed until they are in their mid-twenties, so they don't have the same long-term sense of mortality that adults do. Usually by the time people are mid-twenties, they stop thinking that way.

He broke the law, and he knew it. He was being chased by the police, and he gunned it. He rolled the dice, and it came up snake eyes. No sympathy here. He deserved what he got.

Surely, there is a better way? Death is not the penalty that should be the punishment for speeding!

The dear voters can not take back their heavy thumbs, which is fine with me, because we all think we have the divine truth at our disposal. I'd just like to say a few more things. The patrol car was in high speed pursuit of the young rider on Route 2. These pursuits have ended in fatalities times and again. The cops declaring, in this case as well, this was the only way to 'resolve a situation'. A situation that ended in death. The rider incidentally possessed a license for a 400 cc motor cycle, but not for the class above that which he rode. The crash occurred on a 2-lane stretch of highway in a gentle curve when the truck changed lanes, from the passing lane into the traffic lane, apparently not noticing the motor cycle. Try to envision the situation, think about what you would have commented if the young man had been a son, a relative, a friend. I guess you would have remained silent. The young man broke the law. But did he deserve to die for that?

He didn't deserve to die, but it's not like the police made him run. It's extremely unfortunate, but it was entirely a result of his own actions, and the police cannot be blamed for enforcing the law.

So instead of a high speed pursuit in which people may die the it behooves the police to apprehend the suspect at a later time.Many people blame only the rider here but I've had cops follow me on the highway and then accelerate to high speeds and blow by me at over 180ks per hour!I've seen motorcycle cops racing on mountain routes too! Why? For no reason other than being intimidating.

Where death to the suspect or danger may be caused by the police to the public then these pursuits should be abandoned!

death is not the penalty for speeding but if the perp stopped then this would not be news. it was totally with his control. the police were only doing their job, enforcing the law. if he was speeding away from a triple ax murder or running over a crosswalk full of kids, i wonder if people would continue to say that police should have stopped chasing him?
