To ensure the safety of victims of stalking and domestic violence, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has decided to assist in financing their moving costs with public funds from next month.
The expenses will only be covered for victims who must vacate their current residence to protect their physical safety, police said.
According to the police, there are many victims of domestic violence, harassment and stalking who are not able to relocate due to a lack of financial resources.
Therefore, starting from Aug 1, the police department will assist in covering the cost of moving to ensure victims' safety. Specifically, victims and their families who are at risk of physical harm and do not possess adequate finances will be paid up to 70,000 yen to cover relocation expenses.
Until now, victims who were unable to cover their relocation costs would receive assistance from police department personnel, who would drive moving trucks. However, the police will now utilize support from professional moving companies.

Basically throwing 70,000 yen MAX to avoid to avoid to take care of the issue so they are saving money, but like I wrote, the article is written like they will ensure your safety by covering the cost of moving, if you do not have enough money to relocate, 70,000 yen will never help you to do it.

This is not really going to help. We all here know how profoundly insane and tenacious Japanese criminals can get. The distance provides little protection. Those who would consider increased distance "a drag" to keep "stalking" would be easily convinced to drop the act by one legal entities visit, preferably with an armed escort. Moving the victims farther away would mean more stress for the rest of the stalkers. More stress while traveling there, more time lost (if they consider it a waste of time) - more desperate potential criminals who would act on psychotic surge of emotions. Distance would provide minimal protection, legal system should be worrying of how to keep modern day "stalkers" in check. Moving the victim away does not resolve a problem of at least one sick person walking free amongst the streets.

of course leave it to people on this site to complain about j-cops even when they are going above and beyond what they should do, like personally driving moving trucks, to help victims. breathe out the hate, folks.

I'm really happy that the victims are being supported like this but why are the stalkers, abusers and whatnot the ones paying for this? The good news is this will certainly help many trapped in bad relationships but again, the people being the problem should be paying for this as part of their punishment.

Where did anyone claim it is?
Did you guys read the article?
Note the key word 'assist'.

@Strangeland, no ! "some posters" are saying it is not enough to relocate in Tokyo, period!

70,000 yen isn't enough. So they shouldn't give them anything, right? Seems to be the logic of some posters.
70,000 is 70,000 yen more than they would have if they weren't being helped.

You cannot relocate with 70,000 yen in Tokyo

The stalker should be paying for this, not us.
