Police in Mutsu, Aomori Prefecture, said Thursday they have arrested a 26-year-old third-class petty officer of the Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) for indecent exposure after he was found walking naked in sub-zero temperatures.

According to police, Ryo Ishikawa, who is assigned to the MSDF vessel Suzunami, was drunk at the time of his arrest at around 1:35 a.m. on Wednesday, Fuji TV reported.

The local meteorological office said the temperature at 1:30 a.m. in Mutsu City was minus 7.5 degrees Celsius and about 30 cms of snow covered the streets.

Ishikawa pounded on the door of a home. The resident looked out the window, saw Ishikawa and then called police to report that a naked man was attempting to break into the house. When police arrived at the scene, they found Ishikawa on the street in an inebriated state, while his clothes and shoes were found outside the house.

I'll sleep well tonight, knowing that the Maritime Self-Defense Force is willing to protect us - in freezing weather, in deep snow, and without clothes if need be.   ZZZzzzzz

Good thing somebody called the police on him - otherwise, he could've died from the cold drunk

The word shrinkage comes to mind in the freezing cold in Aomori Prefecture.

"I was drunk, and don't remember doing any of those things"

Lather, rinse, repeat.

"minus 7.5 degrees Celsius and about 30 cms of snow covered the streets." the words frost bite spring to mind!

So it's not just the US military who do these crazy things!

Waw,he is tough. No frostbite? A marine training against cold weather. Now that would be hilarious. His teammates will have a good laugh from this.

@semperfi

one way to get out of the forces

The SDF is not a military and it is very easy to leave the SDF.

Just not show up to work for 30 days and you are dismissed like any other public sector employment like Fireman or Police officer. No desertion charges or anything.

SDF members are civilians and the concept of desertion doesn't exist in the SDF.

Abe san wants to change this, but the Article 9 prevents him.

I have new found respect for MSDF soldiers.

Naked with everything hanging out in -7 degree temperature. Hardcore!

Yes, as the above poster mentioned, the first thing that came to mind when I read the headline was shrinkage.

"I was drunk" should be Japan's national motto.

or suffer frost bite on some important parts

His foot was treated at a local hospital when an icicle fell from his "man"cicle.

30cm of snow? Let's hope the bloke doesn't have short legs and/or noticeably low-hanging testicles and/or an abnormally long penis (although...).

Many cases like these took place when I was in Okinawa 10 years ago. I suspect the mixing of cheap alcohol, Happoshu, along with sake or shoshu, or both. Police should always inquire about what was drunk to possibly establish a trend. He was probably confused.

Maybe he was just doing some extreme cold weather training:-/

Ouch, I cannot bear to think of the sausage out in these freezing temperatures!

Stark naked in sub zero temperature---surely the degree of indecency would be so minimal as to be almost invisisble.

I remember my days in the Navy Man oh Man did I have FUN... I must have a couple of dozen kids scattered throughout the Far East. You can't blame the guy he was drunk and didn't hurt anyone. He probably thought it was his home and got naked to jump into bed and get some sleep. it use to be a good Sailor was a Drunk Sailor. Hope his command can give him a pass on this.

Overreact much?

DDoesmt the homeowner have a duty to protect life, if it was deadly conditions outside for an unclothed person? She could face a lawsuit for not helping.

If he had low hanging testicles in that cold there is something seriously wrong. As anyone who has lived in a cold climate can attest to, all guys pretty much get to be the same "size" as the body will almost literally suck the balls back into the body cavity to protect them, and it's hard to tell the difference between pubic hair and otherwise! (not literally of course)

Serving in the MSDF is an incredibly stressfull and tough job, in one of the most dangerous zones in the world. The responsibility of defending Japan is heavy. He drunk alcohol to let off some steam. Perhaps this petty Officer has mental health issues. I hope he gets the help he needs.
