MSDF member arrested over sexual assault of teenage girl

Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested a 35-year-old member of Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Forces (JMSDF) on suspicion of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

According to police, Shota Iio, a resident of Maizuru City in Kyoto Prefecture, is accused of threatening the girl, who is a vocational school student, at a hotel in Osaka between 4:10 p.m. and 4:50 p.m. on Feb 25, Sankei Shimbun reported. After threatening her, Iio allegedly sexually assaulted her. The girl reportedly did not sustain any injuries.

Police said Iio met the girl on a social networking site (SNS). He later threatened to tell her vocational school about sexually explicit photos of herself she had once posted on a social networking site. Iio asked for sex in exchange for keeping quiet about the photos.

The incident came to light after the girl told a friend what had happened and the friend contacted police.

Good on her friend, that's what a real friend does.

Assault is assault, and the dude should be spending time behind bars!

Once again though JT is using vocabulary to make it sound like she is a kid, by calling her a "teenager" and "vacational school student". She is a technical college student, and while she may still be a teenager, she if not a kid, and from April will be an adult here!

I am glad she has friends that called the cops for her and will get this guy taken care of by the law.

Wow! So this is what the SDF us up to in Japan?

There’s almost no way this guy could be charged or punished.

To qualify for rape and therefore a crime under japanese law, the victim must have resisted to their fullest extent to become unable to resist, such as being tied up or suffer severe enough injuries to be unable to move. Because the guy threatened the girl with the photos, she unlikely give the resistance needed to qualify for any crime. This guy us walking free 99%.

Even if rape charges can be filed and miraculously won it will be max penalty of ~2 years suspended unlikely to deter any future crime.

"He later threatened to tell her vocational school about sexually explicit photos of herself she had once posted on a social networking site. Iio asked for sex in exchange for keeping quiet about the photos."

Where do they get these thirsty, dusty, stank boosie, perverted, freaky, nutcrack, pedo, extortionist-minded creeps in the so-called ammonite Maritime Self-Defense Forces (JMSDF). BMJP

The usual rotation for sexual assault in Japan.

SDF, then doctor, then teacher, then police officer, then rando whacko, repeat.

The good news is she was not injured in the attack. Hopefully this guys spends a lot of time in jail.

So she came to hotel willingly ?

Parents, please take care of your kids and open your eyes.

SDF dude is a loser who deserves the right punishment.

Hmm, the article is a little short on details. Did he actually confess to threatening her? How do we know if it was the girl who tried to blackmail or extort him for more money and then played the victim when he didn't pay up?

After threatening her, Iio allegedly sexually assaulted her. The girl reportedly did not sustain any injuries.

Meaning, there were no signs of an actual assault or struggle? No screaming for help or nail scratchmarks resulting from an attempt to self-defend?

Because family honor can play a big role, especially if a girl is from a conservative family, they can be too afraid for anything to be expose to their parents, and of course to resist physically.

I have a friend who for several years, not only had to be a sex slave to a guy since high school, but also had to enter prostitution to pay the guy around 500,000 yen a month for him not to tell her parents regarding her activities. She eventually attempted suicide and now is in a mental institution, and the guy was never punished for anything.

Unfortunately, there are no enforceable law in Japan to prevent such kind of abuse.

He threatened her over some photos not to physically hurt her. Looks like you are desperate to blame the teenage girl. Just let it play out.

JMSDF. The military. With all the false notions of honor and glory.

Peculiar postings about sex slaves. Questioning the actions of the victim in fending off 'assault'. The suggestion he victim was blackmailing he offender. All very twisted and very, very male.

A young woman was sexually assaulted and blackmailed by a member of he military. By definition: a rapist. Rape being his intent.

The complexity is shaded by the use of 'social media' and posting of explicit photos as some manner of enticement or not. None-the-less, criminal conduct on the part of he offender, made more heinous by the fact it was threatening and coercive, the intent to literally engage in a form of rape, which is non-consensual sex.

The accused is just that--accused. The crime is based on allegations at this stage.

Perv; time for a Court Martial.

Not desperate at all. Seems like you are desperate to play the white knight. And how do you know he actually did threaten her with photos? Where you there in that room?

Until the accused actually confesses, there is no evidence to suggest that he did whatever you assume that he did.

Not blaming the girl. Just asking people to wait for evidence or a confession before judging.

@blahblah -- You do have a point about family honor. But consider this; if she really was from a "conservative" family, and she was so worried about her family "honor", why then did she agree to meet some strange dude at a hotel?

And what type of "honorable, traditional, family-loving" girl DELIBERATELY posts sexually explicit photos of herself on a social networking site where everyone can see her?

Again, don't assume a victim is automatically a victim until it's proven otherwise. And don't believe the accused is automatically guilty until proven otherwise, either.

The family can be conservative, but that doesnt make the girl conservative, especially young girls.

Either way, even if crime actually happened, there are no laws in Japan that can punish anyone. Only death and severe injury may result in some nominal punishments (e.g. suspended sentence) for sexual assults and rape. Without severe physical injury or death, the case itself is a dead end.

Teacher and police officer should probably be higher on that list.
