MSDF seaman arrested for rape, theft after breaking into Hyogo brothel

A Maritime Self Defense Force Leading Seaman was arrested for rape, assault, trespassing and theft on Monday, accused of forcing his way into an adult entertainment business establishment in Kobe City on Sunday morning, raping two women in the store and running away wearing a floral gown that belonged to one of the women, police said.

Takashi Kanaguchi, 26, a Maizuru City (Kyoto Prefecture) resident and seaman assigned to the Takanami class destroyer Suzunami (DD-114), is accused of breaking into the establishment just after 5 a.m. Sunday morning, by kicking in the door which was locked at the time. Police said he took off his clothes and raped a 33-year-old woman in one of the rooms, and is also accused of biting her breasts. He then entered another room and raped a 31-year-old woman, before putting on a dress and running out of the store, police said. He is estimated to have been in the store for about 25 minutes.

Police received a call at around 7 a.m. from an employee at a hotel about 1.5 kilometers away, saying that a naked man had just forced his way into one of the rooms. Police rushed to the scene and held Kanaguchi, who was in a delirious state. Police received a call after 9 a.m. from one of the women at the sex shop, and then began to question Kanaguchi about the incident.

Police are investigating why it took the women several hours to report the crime. A third woman employed as a cleaning lady was also in the sex establishment at the time, and has told police that she thought Kanaguchi was a new staff member who helped attract clients.

Kanaguchi has admitted to the rape and other allegations, but was quoted by police as saying: “The man who did this has already died.”

A Maritime Self Defense Force official said that Kanaguchi had applied for a week’s leave from June 18, saying he was going to Kobe for some fun.

Epic night out.

Was it actual rape, or did he just leave without paying?

Guess he had a little too much fun.

altria: my thinking exactly

I think that the Japanese rendered here as “The man who did this has already died.” was, "Shinda jibun ga yatta." which means, A dead me when I did this. Or perhaps, "I was dead (drunk) when this was done".

"running away wearing a floral gown"

I'll bet he thought that disguise would work.

How bizarre! How could he rape one women when another women was in the next room and the women in the next room heard nothing? Then she got raped? He was able to rape 2 women whilst in a drunken state then they call the cops at 9 a.m which was 4 hours later? Prior to publicizing the info from the police department they should at least find out what happened because I think everyone will come to the conclusion that all he did was a 3 some and then did a runner.

Some fun indeed!!!! (not)

Something tells me that Seaman Kanaguchi's next posting is going to be the loony bin.

DJJapan, he was in a brothel. Now this is a tricky situation, because he probably ran away without paying, but the shop was reluctant to call the police, since prostitution is supposed to be illegal. And then he did "rape" the girls, since they are supposed to just give him a massage or something

This 'rape' moniker... I am all for empowering women and equal protection under the law but lets call a spade a spade. This guy is not allegedly guilty of rape, he is allegedly guilty of theft. He ate deserts that were in the display without paying for them. Regardless of the posts that will inevitably follow, a woman is responsible for her situation and not presenting a situation where unwanted sexual activity is promoted.

And the girls dont call until 4 hours later? They wanted to make sure their business hours were not interrupted? If they are going to try and sell this one to the judge, I hope they had video cams installed to record nozoku videos ; )

I had heard many gaijin are routinely turned away from soaps and massage here... Maybe he was miffed at his money not being clean enough?

That being said, what an idiot.....

@hakujinsensei- He's Japanese, I'm pretty sure his yen was good enough.

definitely a runner, probably too high and out of control, but a customer alright.

Run's out in a dress, omg ! MSDF shouldn't be aloud to read certain types of manga .

Sounds like a threesome and a getaway without paying.....this one going to be hard to work in court.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

the first woman is a very bad friend (and co-worker). After she was raped she must have noticed that the man went to rape another woman. She could have called the police and "saved" her co-worker.

WOW! I think the only thing he didn't do was kill someone. All of the other Jesus rules were broken!

Wow. That ranks right up there with "the tramp was wearing a miniskirt, so she deserved it." Just because a woman is a sex worker does not turn rape into shoplifting... sex is either consensual, or it is not consensual... and given that he gained entry to the building by kicking the door in, it's not particularly likely that this bloke was a paying customer.

So...basically... The guy dressed up as a women, had a 3-some, then left (still wearing the dress) without paying. The place is a "massage" parlor where happy endings are illegal, yet common. The women could only claim rape and theft. If he didn't take the dress I doubt this would have been reported.

was quoted by police as saying: “The man who did this has already died.”

Um... well in Japanese "itta" can be written 行った "went", 逝った "died" or イッタ "came" (ahem)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What I want to know is why everyone is claiming it was a threesome and he didn't pay? NOWHERE in the story does it say he was a customer. Just because the women were sex workers doesn't mean they don't deserve the same amount of justice. I'll admit, calling the cops four hours later sounds iffy, but given the responds here,, they probably felt they wouldn't be believed. Until the facts come out, call it what it is: an alleged rape.

Ahh yes must have been rape by logic since prostitution is illegal in Japan (last time I heard anyway) so he must have raped rather than not paid. None the less, any way you look at this story you gotta think something is strange. The story is a bit ambiguous because one line says adult entertainment which could be topless dancing and another line says brothel which creates a big gap in the actual business going on in what they called the shop.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

where is everyone finding the japanese versiopn of "itta"? showoffs. Also this guy was clearly drunk - kicked down the dorr - impressive he managed to get it up twice though.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's like this, The story says rape, it didn't say a customer skipped out on the bill. For people to assume that is just wrong, if it comes out that was the case, okay, talk about it then.

Besides if he kicked in the door, wouldn't there evidence of that?

my bad... I meant that if sex workers routinely refuse gaijin, I wonder if they refuse other sorts as well.

the headline says brothel... that is a far stretch from a school girl in a miniskirt teasing the ossan. they put their bodies up for sale, that makes them merchandise for that time. had he paid not a word would have been said so that takes into a far different realm than some little girl that suddenly realizes she is not ready.

I love it... so when you pay a whore it is showing respect? for those of you that occasionally visit japanese brothels, it is a new dawn. better not be slapping anyone on the rear... betsu ryoukin ; ) in fact anything beyond straight missionary style is on the menu and if you skimp on the payment, it will be rape (笑)

the reason that they waited 4 hours was to clean up. they had to hide the crack, the customer names, etc. something to do with their activities being ILLEGAL ; )

any decent jisho has the various kanji and definitions for iku... but I wonder if iku in this context was derived from to die or to exhaust water poured on a fire....

Oh why is everyone upset? This is just normal, rape, sex worker, stressed out man, naked man, a man with abnormal urges and desires, women who are only sex workers and doing thier job sincerely, these are things we hear everyday all over the world. They are not sinful accoerding to many and to some religions, so why get upset. Get used to hearing this. No point sympathising with anyone, because the woemen were only trying to make a living and the man had his urges coming somewhere from inside him. And even if he was admiring the images of little children we have to accept that 'cos you cannot punish him for he has not committed a crime.

another sick guy

womanforwomen, you have become so understanding ; )

If brothel is paying taxes than prosecute offender, and if they don't than let him go! Well he must be related to 'SPEEDY GONZALES'...He is estimated to have been in the store for about 25 minutes...

I am appalled that anyone could just sweep aside the rape allegation. Taxes? Illegal occupation? Its all irrelevant. Women may have been raped here. It might not be true in the end, but to just sweep it aside because these are sex workers and other excuses? Just plain awful.

Several things here. We all know that since what a lot of these women do is technically (and foolishly) illegal, that its run mainly by yakuza. I imagine rape is a little common. I imagine that if a strange guy enters your room at a brothel, you close your mouth or face a beating, because he might have been admitted by your boss. To find out later that he wasn't makes it no less a rape. Its just that this time, you can finally complain. Accepting the complaint is to get us on the road to sex workers being treated like the human beings they are. That mix up could explain the delay in reporting.

Also, I doubt they were in business at 5 a.m. That adds to the boss theory. It also brings into much more serious doubt that he was a customer after all and the establishment is lying about the break-in. So does his other break-in at the hotel. So if they were raped, you think they might have been a little traumatized? That would explain a lot about not running to a telephone or coworkers immediately.

And last, the women may have wanted to file a report right away but might have been stopped by the boss, for what should be pretty obvious reasons. There is no fair way to blame the women and try to sweep the rape allegations under the rug. They have to be examined. And this industry should be legitimized already. It only profits the yakuza like this and gives us less control of the situation.

So what drug was he on, do you reckon?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Dunno about drugs but he was obviously at sea in a hot engine room for far too long. This is the strangest thing I've read in a long time.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Psychotic behaviour/behavior can be set off by things such as stress or by drugs. Saw some bizarre stuff at college in the States. Drugs favored by the Yakuza in Japan tend towards crystal meth, or barbiturates. My guess is he overdosed on something locally available. Datura?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Agree with BeaverCleaver. Don't think thats ever happened before, but first time for everything I guess. Rape is Rape. Maybe he went nuts, who knows, but if he raped those women, sex workers or no, they deserve the same protection as any other woman. No means No!

I'm shocked that no one here has demanded that all JMSDF sailors be confined to their bases. After all, that would prevent this crime from ever occuring again. Right?

Come on now, you know the guy is Japanese, only Americans should be held to such a high standard. :)
